Joyce Ann Macdonald was born November 25, 1935 and left this world peacefully surrounded by family in her home on March 26, 2007. She was born in Oklahoma City to Benson and Beatrice Steddum. She was married for 41 years to the love of her life, Robert H. Macdonald, Sr. who preceded her in death on April 8, 1997. Joyce was also preceded in death by her parents; beloved sister, Lila Austin on February 16, 2002; and two children, her eldest son, Robert H. Macdonald, Jr. on December 16, 2002 and her youngest son Mark R. Macdonald on May 8, 1999. She is survived by her son, David B. Macdonald and wife Brit of Oklahoma City; daughter, Angela T. Fullerton of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Lacey Macdonald, Matthew Ferguson, Meghan Macdonald, Nicholas Macdonald, Amanda Macdonald, Ryley Fullerton, Sarah Fullerton, Lauren Fullerton; great-grandson, Broaden Robert Noran; brothers, Robert Steddum, Ben Steddum and wife Tommie; sister, Donna Matter and husband, Dr. Bill. Her life was dedicated to her husband, children and her home. She was ahead of her time, pioneering the duel role of homemaker and career woman. She managed to maintain a career in the legal and medical field and was well respected by all those who knew her as the consummate professional with lightning fast fingers on the typewriter. Yet, with the demands of a full time job, she always had dinner on the table and an immaculately kept home. She will leave a legacy to her children and grandchildren that will remain deeply ingrained within the fiber of their characters. They will always carry her moral code, never having to question the difference between right and wrong. She remained a proper lady, a woman of great dignity and class. When faced with adversity, she always chose the high road and would insist those around her follow her lead. Later in her life as she faced the unthinkable burden of caring for her gravely ill sons, she never faltered. She rose up with strength and courage and inspired us all to fight to the very end. We relied on her patience, persistence and never-ending, unfaltering perseverance. Her hope was our hope. Everyone who met Joyce marveled at her. She has collected countless 'adopted' sons and daughters who consider themselves part of our family. She had a way of drawing people to her. She took it upon herself to help many in need and she was always available for those heart to heart talks, spoken with the kind of gentle honesty, only she could share. As a young girl she played the guitar and the steel guitar and enjoyed taking dance lessons to perfect her Samba, Rumba and Cha Cha Cha. Music remained her passion. Her love of Latin music stayed with her as she had begun to collect music from many contemporary Latino artists. She was particularly fond of local guitarist, Edgar Cruz. Edgar recognized her as one of his 'biggest fans' and would often play her favorite songs when he saw her in the audience. The family wishes to acknowledge their gratitude to Edgar for coming to our home to play for her just a week before her passing. It was the only time we had seen her smile throughout her illness. She liked Edgar because she said, 'He becomes one with his guitar and he carries me away with him.' Joyce was also a talented writer and poet. She has written poetry for many special occasions as well as an extensive collection of poems written from her heart. She possessed a quiet, introspective soul but could rise up fiercely to protect the well being of her family. She was known as MeMaw to her adoring grandchildren, Mom or Momster to her children, Corky to her brothers and sisters and extraordinary to everyone who knew her. We will never forget your grace, your poise, your beauty and how you have made us all better people for having the privilege of sharing your journey.
