Dean Clark Cox, 84, of Cedar Vale, died November 20, 2000 at St. Francis- Via Christi Campus, in Wichita, Kansas. He was born December 19, 1915 near Corwin, Kansas to I. Frank Cox and Millie (Clark) Cox. Educated and raised in Harper County attending Sonneyvale Schools. He married Ruby Kloefkorn, March 5, 1936. She preceded him in death, November 15, 1988. He worked around Cedar Vale as a ranch hand and cowboy at the Bill House Ranch. He attended the Church of Christ in Cedar Vale. He is survived by: Son, Lee: Daughter, Marcilyn Auman; Daughter in Law, Maradean Phinney; Brothers, Delmar & Frank,Jr.; Sister, Eileen Warrington; 11 grandchildren and 20 great Grand Children. He was preceded in death by 2 sons: Jimmie & Verdie; Daughter Chloe Dean Jalo; Grandson, Kent Jalo; 2 brothers Jared & Marlin; sister, Gladys Faulkner. A memorial has been established with the Cedar Vale Historical Museum. Cox was born Dec. 19, 1915, near Attica, to J. Frank and Millie (Clark) Cox. He attended Attica schools. On March 5, 1936, he married Ruby Kloefkorn. She died Nov. 15, 1988. Cox was employed at the Bill House ranch and attended the Church of Christ. He enrolled in Co. F, 29th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers on 14 August 1861 at Golconda, Il. He was a Private and Quartermaster Sergeant. He was mustered out at Mobile Alabama. He was taken prsoner at Holly Springs, Mississippi, 20 December 1862 and paroled. He was also taken prisoner at Natchez, mississippi and paroled at Savannah, georgia. He was a prisoner at Andersonville. The conditions and treatment he experienced there caused him to suffer poor health and contributed to his death 13 February 1877. His address was Massac Creek , Massac, Il. He was blessed to surive Andersonville prison. -- from email by Betty Modglin (2007).
