Hola amigos!
Actually because of the weather we did not go to Valparaiso but decided to go up the Panamericana for 7 horas to La Serena, which is a major beach resort. The busride was quite funny - like being on an airplane we had some dinner served and the seats were like 1st class (1m leg room!!!) Anyway. Its a pity the south americans dont know anything about nice food. Chicken with rice all the time and no sauce with it.... and no spices and.... no big deal, just filling. At least they can do delicious pizzas!
Serena -- the place where Im staying now -- has a huge beach (6km long, 100m wide)! Lots of nice hotels on the beachfront and pretty nice weather though its wintertime here (sunny, 8 to 18 deg) But prices are low for Chile and so is the number of touristas. I think there should be about 20 foreigners in that town now!!!
Yesterday we spent some time at an observatory looking at the sky here. Almost no lights around, have never befor in my life seen so many stars up there :-) Tonight at 6pm LCL (=midnight MET) we will leave for Antofagasta - another 12 horas per autobus on the Panamericana! Shall be a lot warmer up there - comming closer to the northern deserts of Chile! In Antofagasta we plan to stay another day, then we will continue up directly to San Pedro de Atacama, an oasis village next to a vast saline lake with lots of hot springs and geysirs around. Following that we plan to take a 4d tour through the Atacama deserts directly into Bolivia to the Salar de Uyuni.....
So enjoy life as we do and dont work too much
see you soon, Oliver.
