Hi Gals and guys!
Sorry for writing in english, but Im too lazy to write in both -- eng. and german! Anyway. So, Friday morning I arrived in Santiago de Chile after some 20h of travelling. Nice place, but intelligent as I am, I chose wintertime to go to that place, while in Germany we have summertime!!!! So, for now I can tell you, you do not have to envy me for our WX here: 14deg and rain. But had a great time till now anyway!
At Madrid airport I learned to know some funny chilenians so I had an interesting flight. And just after having arrived in my hotel Residencial Londres, which looks like an ancient 17th century castle and has a great athmosphere, I met 2 australian girls who have been travelling from Argentina to Chile and are now up to go to Ecuador. I always wonder how so many people have so many holidays! Anyway... the 3 of us spent the last few days since my arrival together exploring Santiago.
Another weired NY'er was in this hotel -- met him in the lobby while having some many bottles of Chilenian wine, which is actually really nice -- he almost travelled any strange country in this world. Seems to have guts, when he was last year in Iran (as an American!) and Afganisthan. His stories are beyond all belief. Only am too lazy to write all about, so just this: When he passed to Afganisthan, he learned to know, that all embassies are still with the old governments personel, which is non-existing anymore. But the Taliban dont care about embassies and stuff. So he went in Iran to this embassy and asked for a visa. This guy was friendly and replied: "Yes of course, you can have a visa, no problem. Of course you can travel our country. It is save. Ok, we can't go there. We would get killed. But you? Of course." The last visa issued to some tourist must have been some 4 months ago.... Only problem is: The taliban who rule this country do not accept a visa issued by the old government. So you need one visa to get out of iran and have to buy another visa from the Taliban to get into the country :-) .......
Maybe I will have time someday to write down more of his tales later on, but not today. So, I just met 3 Irish girls going into my direction (up north) on Tuesday. So, maybe, I'll just join them for a while. Will see. Otherwise I'm pretty fine here and looking forward to moving north into the warmer landscapes -- like the deserts.
enjoy
Oliver.
