What is Nag 3?

Is Nagravision 3 hacked?
YES, but not fully. Some boxes are able to view some channels encrypted using Nag 3 by emulating a paid subscriber card and disseminating keys to other systems through software over the internet. Testers are working hard in the underground community to further crack this security implementation as they have Nag 2. Current underground projects are limited to channels which can be subscribed to. Channels not available for subscription such as Special Events and Pay-Per-View programming have so far remained unavailable.
Claims have recently been made that Nag 3 is compromised in Europe, where it has been in use for some time. These claims have so far not been proven to work or have any chance of working in North America.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is Bev using Nag 3?
YES. Undergound hackers for the most part are no longer able to view Bev programming, with the exceptions of testers using this method, which only gains access to subscription based programming. Only 1 manufactured FTA receiver is so far able to make use of this new technology to circumvent Nag 3 on the Bev provider network.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is DN using Nag 3?
YES. All subscribers to DN have been informed that they will need to upgrade their conditional access cards with new purple Nag 3 version cards. DN as of Decemeber 17th have begun testing Nag 3 on some channels and are expected to migrate completely to Nag 3 in the very near future. International channels are still in (test mode) as are several other DN satellites at this time. This is also causing problems with some FTA providers software (bin files) now, as reports of "freezing", "Blacked out channels", "loss of signal", "scrambled channels", and other strange problems occur, we will have to wait for the ocders to fix any "bug" issues they can and wait for a new release.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When will DN begin using Nag 3?
On December 17th, 2008 it was noted by many in the underground testing community that several channels had been at least temporarily switched over to Nag 3 encryption. This no doubt signals that e*** star is getting ready to begin the implementation of Nag 3 on DN channels. It is likely that international, sports, pay-per-view and special event programming content will be the first to begin making use of Nag 3 to prevent any mishaps with regular subscribed content. Once the transition is successful, other channels will quickly migrate to Nag 3.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Will my FTA receiver be able to get Nag 3 channels?

Maybe.
If you are using a legit box that includes native support for Nag 3 conditional access modules, and you pay for a subscription, you should be able to continue using your current receiver.

However, if you are using a FTA satellite receiver to "steal" Nag 3 programming content, you may definitely be impacted. Initially, it appears that only boxes capable of an Internet connectivity using IKS software will be able to use a variant the current technique adopted for Nfusion for receivers. While many claims have been made from various set top box manufacturers, the final word has not even begun to be written as it pertains to older boxes and Nag 3. Some STB manufacturers have actually announce that add-on hardware will be made available to some boxes, making them capable of updates over the net, which would give them the ability to use IKS. If you are considering the purchase of a box right now, many suggest waiting to see what happens over the next few months, or you may be wasting your money.

How long will we have to wait for a Nag 3 fix?
No one knows how long it will take before the masses are able to break the Nag 3 code, or if it will ever be fully hacked. I will continue to monitor developments any new findings here. In the meantime, I would suggest you record a good number of movies and shows in advance, because it may be a long time before you will be able to watch pirated satellite signals.

If nagra3 is hacked I will announce it first here in this section.
