They seem to be universal as they have been reffered to in the Bible, described by the ancient Greek and Persians. Unicorns were also listed among the living animals by Ploney, the Elder, the Roman naturalist.
The true origins remain a mystery. Some tell they were a gift from the faierys.
As for me, I hope the origin is never mande known, for their mysterious ways make them oh-so special.
