My project will be on animal awareness. The problem is that there are too many neglected animals that need to be cared for and not many people know about it. This is a problem because the people of this community do not like having animals running all around, but they also do not like keeping many animals that they do not care about. When someone adopts an animal they need to know what they are getting into. To solve this problem the humane society and other organizations promote awareness. On the H.S.U.S.'s Pet Overpopulation Facts page (http://www.hsus.org/programs/companion/overpopulation/op_fs.html), there is a quote that says, "...spread the word in your community that the pet overpopulation problem must—and can—be solved." That is exactly what I will try to do. There is obviously more to do or else there would be no need for so many humane societies or animal shelters. I will help solve this problem by helping people become aware. I will give them the information and knowledge to choose the right decisions. This will give them the knowledge, so that they may become more aware of the animal’s welfare. In turn this will make the people more responsible pet owners and they will contribute more to their pet’s health and happiness. The main thing I will do to solve this problem is make a Web Site about caring for animals. It will be a resource guide. Although it will not replace a veterinarian, if used in conjunction to help people it will be very helpful. There will be a quiz to see how much people know or do not know. I will also have a link page with links to other helpful sites. This will give them the knowledge to make good decisions in the future. This in turn will cut down on the problem. This is small, but very helpful and a little thing can go a long way because they will tell their children and make a big difference in the future. This will definitely create awareness of animal responsibility. I will prove that this works I will put together a survey and hand it out to the people I talk to so that I may get feedback from them.
I will be working with two other seniors on this project, helping them out with their projects. We will be collaborating. I will work with Colleen Blackburn and Shannon Steck, who are both making web pages to promote awareness of spaying and neutering, Shannon will be making a video to promote awareness of that subject. I will also help them with their sites and link them all together in an organized format. We will collaborate on making a trip to other communities. Although I do not think I will need to use any money other than the money I personally have, I would raise the money by having a bake sale if it would be needed. We will all work together to make this community a better place to live.

Original Project Proposal

There is obviously more to do or else there would be no need for so many humane societies or animal shelters. I will help solve this problem by helping people be aware. I will give them the information and knowledge to choose the right decisions. The main thing I will do is take a Girl Scout troop to the humane society to see what happens and have someone explain to them and their parents how to take care of animals so they do not need to go there. This will give them the knowledge to make good decisions in the future. This in turn will cut down on the problem. This is small, but very helpful and a little thing can go a long way because they will tell their children and make a big difference in the future. If that does not work out, the alternitives will be to make a website and put up posters for the public to see. This will definately create awareness to animal responsibility.
