After about five days upon the skiff, Richard B. Riddick and company were delirious and on their last break before they would go insane and die of thirst. It was at that time the infamous murderer, found the planet Vulcan. |
| "Riddick, how many days will it take before we can land?" Jack asked as she watched the muscled bound killer's deft fingers work the console with a speed that the young girl could not comprehend. |
| "Praise Allah," Imam muttered his whole persona perking with hope. |
| "That," Riddick motioned with a nod of his head, "Is Vulcan, mostly colonies. We shouldn't have that much trouble blending in until we can either buy a ship or steal one." |
"We can't steal a ship, what if we get caught?" Jack asked with worry. |
| Riddick remained silent, his brain already conceiving a plot that would enable him to get rid of the excess baggage and get him off the planet with cash and a new disguise?at least he hoped so any way. |
| It took about a few hours before Riddick actually found a safe place to land as they orbited the strange planet. He took careful measures as he rechecked the systems to make sure they could survive the landing. Also, he made sure that they landed close enough to civilization, just in case they were injured or couldn't handle the elements. |
"Brace yourself," he replied simply, not looking over to see if they were strapped in, he moved the controls and braced himself. |
The landing was rough, much like the landing on the planet that they were able to survive prior to Vulcan. After that incident, Riddick believed that he could survive anything without any problems. |
| They jostled, the shield crashed and shards of glass flew at them, but Riddick bared his teeth and held his grip as he steered the skiff. |
| Slowly, they came to a stop and Riddick shut the engine off, unbuckled himself, and shook the glass off. He turned around found Jack and Imam doing the same thing. |
| "Let me do all the talking," Riddick replied and led the way out of the broken down skiff. |
| The downtrodden group, whose hopes quickly assessed their surroundings. It was a combination for a desert and the woods. It was shocking to see they be so close together. |
"Riddick, what is up with this place?" Jack asked as she looked around with worry. |
| "It's hard to explain, Jack," Riddick replied and changed the subject, "let's go, I think there are some signs of life in that direction." |
| "He doesn't look too good, Imam," Jack whispered to the Holy man, who merely nodded and then began to praise Allah for his guidance throughout the entire journey. |
It took a few hours before the group finally reached the dusty roads of civilization. To Riddick it was almost like an old western movie, he could almost hear the cheesy sound effects from those movies playing in his mind. All he needed to see was a man in a cowboy hat and boots and the movie would begin. |
| "Let's try that place," Jack said pointing to a store that looked very much like a general store back in the cowboy days. |
| Riddick nodded and began to wonder if he really needed medical attention or not. About that time was when the big man collapsed in the store before he could even speak. |
| "Johns!" Jack said and ran to his side. |
| Riddick was glad that the girl did not call out his real name and made him sigh with relief inside. He fought unconsciousness, not wanting to be vulnerable in an unknown place with possible enemies nearby. |
| "Is he okay?" the middle-aged man asked, crouching near Riddick. |
| "I think he needs a doctor bad, mister," Jack replied pretending she was a boy again. |
| "Yes, Mister, can you contact a doctor for us?" Imam asked kneeling besides Riddick as well, who was now shivering. |
| "There is no doctor here on Vulcan, especially on this part of the planet I'm afraid," the man replied almost sadly, "however the most I can do for you guys is give him medicine and something to disinfect it." |
| "Carl," said a feminine voice as it entered the store. |
"Aah, fuck the freak is here," Carl muttered mostly to himself. |
| "I heard you, Carl," the woman replied as she came into view of everyone. |
| "Listen, bitch, I don't care now leave my store," Carl replied walking towards her. |
| The woman was dressed in a large coat with a hood that obscured the view of her face. She pushed the hood aside and opened the jacket to reveal black short pants and a black tank top. However, the thing that really caught Jack and Imam's attention was her dark blue hair. |
| The blue haired woman smiled sweetly and grabbed the guy's balls and said, "I hope you are listening really clearly, Carl, cause I will not repeat this again. I know you don't like me and that's fine but if you don't allow me to buy your supplies I'm just going to take it while you are tied up to a chair with tape around your mouth. Now can I give you my money or do you want to lose money?" |
| Carl groaned and then grunted when the woman let go of him. With an angered/relieved look he replied, "get what you want, Elia, and leave I have customers here who needs my help." |
"Okay," Elia replied with a cheery smile and went to the back of the store. |
| "Who is she?" Jack asked Carl who walked by with a bottle of antiseptic and bandages for Riddick. |
| "Elia Watson, she's a freak no one around here likes her," the shopkeeper replied and handed the stuff to Jack, "be careful of her, son, she's a beast." |
| "Carl, don't say nasty things about a person if they are within hearing distance," Elia said from the other side of the room and walked to the newcomers, "you guys are new, how is your friend? You mind if I check him out?" |
| "Are you a doctor?" Imam asked hopeful. |
| "Something like that, mate," Elia replied and crouched next to Riddick and touched his forehead, "Hmmm, your friend here is burning up. I think he has an infection. Just give him an antibiotic and clean the wounds and let him rest a few days and he should be fine." |
| "Why Miss Watson, I never knew you to be so smart," Carl replied genuinely surprised, "why did you never say anything?" |
| "Well, no one ever talks to me except to tell me to leave, Carl, why would I admit something like that if people are going to tell me leave?" Elia asked as she stood up. |
| "Will you help us, Miss Watson? Please? We have no money but maybe we can return the favor some how," Imam pleaded as he looked at Riddick. |
"Sure, but we'll have to get you guys some clothes, it's pretty cold out there and won't get any better," Elia replied and turned to Carl, "You got some clothes for them, Carl?" |
| "Yeah, sure,I think I even have something that will fit the boy," the shopkeeper replied and went somewhere in the back missing Elia's puzzled look. |
| "But she's a girl," Elia replied softly as she looked at Jack. |
| Jack shifted uncomfortably and said, "Please don't say anything, Elia." |
| "I don't care, I won't gain anything if I did say something anyways," the blue haired woman replied and stood up, "why don't you try and wake up your friend here and we'll get him out of here." |
| "Here you guys go," Carl replied carrying three coats, "I hope these fit." |
| Jack and Imam put on their coats and with Imam's help Elia put on the coat on Riddick as well. Elia pushed some of her midnight blue hair away from her face and began to stock her all terrain vehicle with the supplies that she bought, and to Jack and Imam it looked like a years worth of stuff. |
"Imam, will you help me put him in the back and Jack will you stay with your friend?" Elia said as she closed the trunk door. |
| Once everything was settled, the dark haired woman got into her vehicle and gunned it. A soft purring sound greeted their ears and the journey began. Silence filled the black interior vehicle, while Elia continued to look in the back seat with the rear view mirror and Imam with the corner of her eyes. |
"Kind of far from New Mecca aren't you, Imam," she said nonchalantly. |
| "Are ship crashed," Imam replied simply. |
| "Oh and if your "friend" tries to put his shiv in my back he has another thing coming," Elia replied suddenly and slammed on her brakes with a gun pointed at Riddick's head who was now in between the driver and passenger seat. |
| Riddick growled, pulling himself out of the "headlock" between the seats with shiv still in hand. Meanwhile, Elia had her gun pointed at Imam and Riddick. |
| "Don't think I won't kill any of you, no one around here cares and no one could heal you anyway," she replied flicking her dark hair away from her face to reveal hazel eyes with cat-like pupils, "only the strong survive." |
| "Ri..!" Jack started to shout and corrected herself, "Johns! Please put the shiv down, she's here to help us!" |
| "Yes, please, Johns, Miss Watson merely is here to help us," Imam replied pleadingly. |
"Yeah, by pointing a gun at us?" Riddick replied smartly not budging. |
| "Well, you put the shiv down and then you won't have a barrel staring at you," Elia replied with a slight hiss, "Johns." |
| There was a draw, both parties stared at each other for a long time before the blue haired woman replied to Riddick, "Get out of the car, you are sitting in the front I don't trust you." |
| "I'll get out the same time you do," Riddick replied, "I don't trust you any more than I could throw you." |
| Elia sighed and thought about an earth book called A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy before saying, "Look, I'm the closest thing to a doctor around here, there's a blizzard coming and I don't have the time to play robbers with you. I don't really fancy being stuck out here in twelve foot snow and being in a cramped place with the three of you, albeit charming as you are I'd rather be stuck at home than here. So, do you prefer to squabble in this vehicle or in a house where we can actually run and break things and still have a warm bath to go to or out in the snow and die from hypothermia?" |
| Riddick sighed, hating that the woman made a valid point and rubbed his baldhead, then replied, "Fine, truce for now." |
| "Men," Elia muttered with a shake of her head and turned the vehicle on again, "you wouldn't have been able to drive this monster anyway, it only responds to me." |
Riddick glowered beneath his calm exterior, while his companions bubble with worry and excitement about things to come. They each contemplated why Elia's eyes were so cat-like, while Elia contemplated the true name of Johns.
