Nagardia was born of the void. Created from the endless void by the All Knowing. In a clash of power and warring beings powerful beyond our comprehension, the all Knowing needed, wanted, and desired a place of peace, of neutrality, of retreat, of contemplation. Thus from the endless void Nagardia came to be. For hundreds of thousands of what we term years only plants and a wide variety of creatures with out sentience roamed this place of ultimate neutrality. Neither good nor evil were known on Nagardia. For the All Knowing this was but a brief span of time, a moment of brief retreat.
All to soon good and evil were both introduced to Nagardia as the First Races began to appear on Nagardia. Dragons, Elves, Dwarves and Humans were sent through the void in the hope of escaping complete extinction. Infants they were, both in the vastness of time of the All Knowing but also in their life spans. Not one single adult being survived the void to make it to Nagardia. The All Knowing decided to let them stay, to give them the opportunity to learn to live together in peace. The All Knowing provided, cared for them and taught them all they needed to know to provide for themselves and their brothers and sisters.
The All Knowing also gave them the ability to mindspeak to each other and a bond was formed. Elf, Dwarf and Human were raised together as brothers and sisters. Dragons being by far the largest of the First Races and the longest lived were life linked to Elf, Dwarf or Human when they were old enough to withstand their emotions without risking the Dragon being turned to evil. In the course of time those bound to a dragon became known as EverDragons, their link companions known as DragonFriends.
These Life links were broken only by death. Most often the death of the Elf, Dwarf or Human but occasionally a mishap befell a Dragon and the Dragon perished. Humans, Elves or Dwarves that lost their DragonFriend went insane so close was the link to their DragonFriend. In their grief and insanity the bereaved EverDragon most often killed themselves for many believed that in death they would be reunited with their DragonFriend. Sometimes, if the EverDragons other friends and families could watch them close enough to prevent suicide an EverDragon would survive. Often these Friendless, EverDragons found a new lifebond in a new DragonFriend, usually a young Dragon needing a more mature bondmate. Those Friendless EverDragons that survived but did not form new life bonds with another dragon found some comfort as well as a place in life by helping to raise and train young Dragons in the grip of their first Lifebond and their EverDragon bondmates. Training and educating the bondmates in whatever discipline suited their talents.
Because of the symbiosis that happens between Dragon and his/her bondmate at the time of bonding the lives of the bonded EverDragon are greatly extended. They become virtually as immortal as the dragons themselves. Meaning they age incredibly slow. This symbiosis is the reason that EverDragons most often suicide if their DragonFriends die. Though EverDragons become immortal with their lifebond they can be killed through strong magical weapons or spells.
Because the magic that creates the lifebond is inherent in the Dragons those who loose a bondmate do not have the problem with insanity and suicide. Though the loss has been known to drive a Dragon to extreame acts of revenge. These bondless Dragons unless very old most often take a new bondmate after taking time to grieve as the bond between EverDragon and DragonFriend is one of ultimate trust and endless friendship.
Those Dragons that do refuse to take another bondmate are often very old and it is these Dragons that help raise, protect and educate hatchlings and potential EverDragons. Passing on the lore and vast knowledge and history of Nagardia. Not all humans, elves and dwarves can become EverDragon bondmates for Dragons do not breed as often as the shorter lived humans, elves and dwarves. Though they do lay a clutch of 8-16 eggs at a time. But as no Dragon ever treated anyone with less then kindness and thus though many dreamed of being EverDragon none were jealous.
For two thousand years peace and neutrality still reigned supreme over Nagardia. But the wars that drove the First Races to Nagardia eventually drove the second races to Nagardia. Gnomes, Trolls, Ogres, Goblins, Giants, Dark Elves, Dark Dwarves and more Dragon races as well as many others began to appear on Nagardia. But this time the refugees were adults and with them they brought their wars and petty disputes. Knowledge of good and evil were brought to Nagardia.
Jealousy soon raised its ugly snout among those of the First Races that were not bonded EverDragons. Not many at first but with time the DragonFriends and EverDragons were slowly pushed out of the cities to the cliff and mountain dwellings preferred by Dragons. Soon after Elves and Dwarves with their longer lives were encouraged to build their own cities, leaving the current cities of the time to the humans. Few cities escaped this separation. But years of shared history helped keep Elves, Dwarves, humans, Dragons and their EverDragon friends as close allies. Thus all was not lost though evil now snakes its way among the humans.
Even Dragon kind was not spared the taint evil, though dragons are pure of heart when the eggs are laid, many of the adult dragons that were now appearing on Nagardia were of an evil nature. Their disdain for DragonFriends became legendary and many a battle ensued between the Evil Dragons and Nagardia's Dragons with their EverDragon bondmates. Even those new dragons that were not evil found great disdain for the Dragons of Nagardia because of their disdain for what they saw as lower life forms.
Where evil goes, war soon follows and for a time war ravished Nagardia. The lives of many on all sides were lost and the EverDragons and their DragonFriends where decimated. Though war no longer reigns over Nagardia it is an ever-present threat. The EverDragon's and their bondmates retreated to the remotest parts of Nagardia to live and rebuild their once great numbers.
