| TRADITIONNAL FOOD Since this sabbat marks the end of one year and the beginning of another, since this is the night where the souls of the dead walk upon the earth, it is traditionnal to leave a well garnished plate of food for them on the dinner table. The pomegranate is the sacred fruit of this sabbat; Hades gave it to Persephone to convince her to stay with him. The pumpkin also holds an important place for it is to be decorated into a lantern. All the roots - for example, potatoes, beets, carrots and parsnips - are appropriate, for they symbolise our link with the world of the dead. Grains like wheat, oat meal, etc., are also part of this sabbat, just like nuts are. DISHES TO SERVE Meat and vegetable stew; pumpkin pie; nut bread; cranberry muffins; beer, spicy wine punch, spicy cider, herbal tea. |
