Hong
Poh
Gaik,
a graduate of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art (NAFA) in 1965,
has studied
both Chinese and Western paintings.
Except for
a period of 10 years after her marriage during
which she
had to look after her children and manage her family,
she has
been active in painting.
Today, Hong
Poh
Gaik
has held more then seven solo exhibitions in Malaysia
and participated
in numerous joint shows.
She is regarded
as an outstanding woman ink painter in Malaysia.
Her paintings
are included two main categories of work :
Floral Birds
and Kampong Scenes.
Hong
Poh
Gaik
prefers to work with nature and living things around her
as this
permits easy access for her observation and study.
Based on
her studies and understanding, she is capable of portraying her subjects
with lively
and personal touches. Her use of brush is firm yet lively.
She uses
ink and colour in various shades with harmonious and subtle effect.
Her compositions
are well planned, interesting and appealing.
She captures
very well the characters of flowers, birds, animals and insects,
and potrays
them with skilful touches of ink, colour and brush strokes.
