(in alphabetical order)

These are ten of my favorite movies. I'm not saying that these are the best ten films ever made, in fact, some of the films listed are flawed. Each is brilliant in their own way, and the movies I never get tired of.

8 1/2

Fellini
The best work from one of the best directors. If you've seen it, you know why it's here.
Animal Crackers

Heerman
(The Marx Brothers)
Pure joy.
Apocalypse Now

Coppola
Absolute intensity. Comes together like a dream.
Blade Runner

Scott
Scott recently revealed in an interview that Deckard was a replicant. My understanding is that the only scene that would lead to this conclusion was left on this editing room floor. He said that he didn't think it was that big of a deal, but personally, I wish he would left it ambiguous. Still, genre-breaking, beautifully rendered, and just about perfect.
Citizen Kane

Wells
This is art folks. Double-bonus is the pure entertainment factor.
Hamlet

Branagh
What can I say, I really was hoping he didn't have to die at the end and was crushed when he did. Taking a work this old and still surprising the audience is a mark of genius.
Love and Death

Allen
Cross-over from zany humor to the dense themes of Allen's later work. It isn't his best, but it has always been my favorite.
M

Lang
A complex film that defined Film Noir.
The Seventh Seal

Bergman
Would you like to play a game of chess? This film had such a deep psychological impact the motif appears in Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, The Last Action Hero, and Love and Death (perhaps more, but these are the ones I'm aware of - if you know others e-mail them to me).
Young Frankenstein

Brooks
This was a toss-up between Young Frankenstein and The Producers. Hard call. The Producers has a better script, but I think YF is funnier. Based on the number of spontanious moments of out-loud laughter, I went with YF.
