My Path Essay

“A purple stuffed worm in flap jaw space with a tuning fork doing a raw blink on hairai kiri rock I need scissors! 61!”

 - Colonel Roy Cambell (Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of liberty: Substance edition for the Playstation 2).

I picked this quote because I like Metal Gear Solid. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty: Substance edition for the Playstation 2 is a video game starring Jack “Raiden”. The game features Raiden infiltrating an oil rig called Big Shell that's been taken over by the terrorist group “Dead Cell” and the President of the United States, George “Solidus Snake” Seares. Also POTUS George “Solidus Snake” Sears is a clone of the world famous soldier John “Big Boss” alongside his 2 other “Brothers”, David “Solid Snake”, who had all of John “Big Boss”s Dominant Genes, and Eli “Liquid Snake”, who had all of John “Big Boss”s Recessive genes. It's actually revealed in the first game (Starring David “Solid Snake”) that David “Solid Snake” actually has all of the recessive genes instead, and that POTUS George “Solidus Snake” is the one true clone of John “Big Boss”.

As the game progresses, it's revealed that the people who give you instructions back at HQ are actually AI deepfakes that have been trying to recreate the events of the first game so they can learn from their mistakes.

The game deals with fake news, deepfakes, and the power of memes (Both the Scientific ones and the Internet ones.) Memes, in the context of the thoughtforms, are  cultural ideas that can be passed down like genes.  An example of a meme like would be something like the concept of gender, and the “Can i haz chezburger” image.

Metal gear solid 2: sons of liberty: substance edition for the playstation 2 is a game made well ahead of its time, talking about these topics in 2001, literally a decade before the words Meme or Fake news or Deepfake had entered popular vocabulary.

To be frank, CVU was not a good fit for me.  I've honestly blocked out a lot of memories from 9th grade and 10th grade. That being said, what I DO remember is a blur of offhanded insults and genuinely uneducated people calling me retarded

The two species of classmates I encountered are as follows

  1. The “Nice Girl”

    1. Notable behaviors:

      1. Laughing at literally anything say

        1. > Be me.

        2. > “the answer to the question is X cosine times tangent”

        3. > white girl in the back of class.

        4. > “lol hahahahahah slayyy jacob good job”

        5. > starts clapping

        6. > great now i wanna jump off a bridge.

      2. Field notes:

        1. Some of them are actually chill, but are either

          1. A: Just going with the herd.

          2. B: also autistic.

  2. The boy who also sucks but for different reasons.

    1. Notable behaviors

      1. Generally sucking.

        1. > Be me

        2. > be undiagnosed autistic

        3. > walk into the wrong class be accident

        4. > white boy yells

        5. > “Jacob bro what are you doing here get out retard”

    2. Field notes:

      1. I prefer this brand of sucking to the “Nice Girl”, because at least they're up front about sucking.

The rest of my classmates are either chill or I literally have never interacted with them.

I pretty much just coasted though my first and second years of high school. I averaged a 2.5 in pretty much every class, and mostly just doodled or programmed in every class instead  did all of my work on time and never got distracted and always payed attention.

In my Junior year, I was accepted into the Computer Animation and Web Design (CAWD, Later renamed to Game Animation And Web Design (GAWD)) program at CTE. I’ve been drawing and animating ever since I could hold a pencil, and I've always been fascinated with game art and design.

The experience has been leagues better than CVU, mostly stemming from the fact that everyone wants to be there. I found that the classes I had trouble with were the classes that everybody was required to take.  Because I am in a classroom with people who share my interests, it seems like people behave differently. I feel like it's easier for me to find motivation to work on things, because it's actually useful, and will actually help me in college.

I would consider myself to be a good learner. I can pick up new skills pretty easily, and have (somewhat) good attention to detail (When I remember). My talents include:

  1. Drawing

  2. Animation

  3. Programing

  4. Making things needlessly complicated

  5. Making lists

  6. Job

  7. A sense of humor

  8. Driving Mrs Maley up the wall

I want to go to college for animation, and eventually work for a company of some kind.

I ended up being accepted to a bunch of colleges, and am currently deciding between RIT and DREXEL. To succeed in college I'm gonna have to rein it in and play by their rules instead of mine. Which is less fun :( .  I want to build relationships with people who can appreciate my sense of humor.
