GRRRRRL POWER!!!!!

You know, if you ask the vast majority of youth to name ten important men in the history of the United States, most would be able to come up with many more than ten names. Ask these same youth to name ten important women in the United States? I imagine that most of our youth would struggle to answer that question. I imagine that most s would struggle to come up with ten important females. . This is because all of our presidents have been men. The huge names in sports are still mainly male. Title IX has been in effect for some time now, but how many of the youth can name the women's professional basketball teams?

I would like to do my part to help remedy that. I am going to list women that have had an effect on the United States. I am sure I am going to get some flack for the women I choose. The first one I have on the list is Sylvia Plath. "What did she do for the US?" you may be asking. No, she did not further women's rights in a direct way. She was not a political leader. In fact, after college, she lived in England. We still like to claim her as our own, though. What she did do was allow women to speak. She tackled issues in her poetry that no woman had dealt with before. She was direct and she was brutally honest. That I admire.

I am going to include popular musicians in my list. Because when you mention the word society, you must include the youth. Do not underestimate the power of the adolescent mind. I will include writers. I will include activists. I may include some of my friends and family. Each person that impacts another person makes an impact on this society, for better or for worse.

Please, ladies, let us make a positive impact.
