| Beginning in late-1992 Conrail purchased 74 3,800hp SD60M's, which are basically SD60's with an improved wide-cab, and assigned them to the series CR 5500-5574, though CR 5544 is an SD60I. These quickly became a staple on heavy mainline freights during the 1990s. |
