The Very Blest of  Jack Tannehill

Earlier Lately

Mornings come so much Earlier Lately
The yellow sun breaks the dawn Earlier Lately
The midnight owl's got less time in the sky
his hoot just sounds so blue
I feel just like that midnight owl,
I been losing you, Earlier Lately

The milky way, it's here and gone Earlier Lately
The cricket's song is too soon done, Earlier Lately
The man on the moon just hasn't time to show
   he stole God's halo
If I could steal I'd rob you blind, you might stay to
seek what's yours, and not leave Earlier Lately

Once was a morning we'd both lie past pangs of hunger
I'd kiss your cheek and watch you sleep,
surprise each other with our pasts
   with long, long meaningless stories

Baby loves... each baby loves how the momma loved
You rock my momma's bastard in a way that'd make her proud
Or is it me do I make you eat the dirt that woman plowed
I just can't sleep, I wake from dreams and roam a lonely house
   much too Earlier Lately

I've had me more than one man's share to find
I must still try and lose to learn
I guess I wish there were things I fixed
and came brand new to you
, Earlier Lately
