Steven Jackson - A Writer's Journey
Welcome to my writing world where you can see where my creativity takes me.
Writing Report: February 15th, 2006
Not one of the best weeks for writing, but I did manage to get some other things done.  I did some research into writing contests on Monday, finally going through some e-mails from play writing sites that I haven't gone through in a long time.  I plan on entering a writer's digest contest for May, so I do have some work ahead of me on The State Of Tennessee.  I feel that it will be my best chance competitively.

In other news, I have been reading more plays this past week to get my juice going.  I have forsaken novels and biographies for a bit in order to do so.  It's amazing the reactions one gets to reading plays on public transportation.  I finished the late Wendy Wasserstein's The Heidi Chronicles last week and I am half way through Richard greenberg's Three Days Of Rain, based on the praise of a fellow theatre friend from NY.  Reading plays helps me visualize what I need to be saying in my work.  I'm hoping to see versions of these plays sometime to connect the words with the visual ideas.

I also read through The Code Of the West this past week, trying to figure out things that need to be added and clarified.  Introducing at least one new character seems to be in the works as well as more descriptive stage directions.  I tend to leave those to a director, but I am pretty vague especially with long passages.

This week I plan on working on the remaining scenes of Tennessee as well as the song for my friend in Seattle.
