A Piece From A Year About A Dear Friend Who Left Us

The Plan

Why did you feel you had to go?
You must have had a plan
You must have had a single thought
Of what would lie ahead

It wasn’t grand, it had its turns
So many ups and downs
A single road that crossed a land
The end was where you’re bound

You seemed to think you were alone
We saw it in your eyes
A distant look across a bar
You know the heart can’t lie

How did you know your life would run
Its course from here to there?
Did you think when it reached there
That people would not care?

Many couldn’t see your fight
The demons in your mind
We saw you smile, we heard you joke
Was the plan in there behind?

You found a corner just to stay
Where none of us could see
All the pain that raged within
The pain it was to be

Now we will meet and talk about
The man that we all knew
Memories will flood about our times
Before the plan took you

There will be the hidden thoughts
The secrets you did not tell
You must have thought about this too
Was this the plan as well?

Questions flow across my mind
Others think them too
Could we have helped, could we have known?
Just one thing we could do?

Now we can’t, those thoughts remain
Maybe that part was known
But there was a fatal flaw
Our love for you has grown

Why did you feel you had to go?
You must have had a plan
