Steven Jackson - A Writer's Journey
Welcome to my writing world where you can see where my creativity takes me.
Writing Report - Sunday, November 5th, 2006

So I missed last week because I wasn't sure if I had much to say. However, this week was a very prosperous week. I finally attended my first meeting of a writing group which I have belonged online to for over eight months. I had procastinated over the summer at going mostly due to working Wednesday nights before. Well the meeting was a pretty good experience, not only for the people I met, but for what I could offer to the group. I discovered that I was actually more together when it came to writing than most people within the group. Many did not have any particular focus for their writing like mine (playwriting and short stories), but they had lots of enthusiasm. We did one writing exercise similar to me where each person hands a story around and adds two lines to it (an ode to nights at Bill and Danny's) and read our take-home exercises. I was a little ill-prepared for the second one, but the evening was fun and I think I gave them encouragement and ideas of what the future meetings could be about.

The other piece of news is that I began a new play in a new writing location that worked immensely. I had woke up one night with an idea and a title (always a good sign, for some reason, I am great with finding titles) about war and comic book covers and wanted to jump into it. Well after writing a brief outline, I wanted to write, but was feeling stiffled at home, so Todd suggested that I go to the library at Broadview and Gerard. Well I wrote solid for an hour on the play which adds up to about five pages and was very pleased. It convinced me that I need to step outside if I want to write better. Hopefully I will be able to talk more about this play and also more on Tennessee (since I finally found his brother's book while at the library as well as a book on OZ, the library what a wonderful place).

Books I've Read:
1) Son Of A Witch by Gregory Mcguire - not quite finished, but a fascinating book about what happened after the book Wicked took place. I have always been interested in the land of Oz since I was a kid and it has rekindled my love all over again.
