Steven Jackson - A Writer's Journey
Welcome to my writing world where you can see where my creativity takes me.
Writing Report - January 24th, 2006
So my week started off in a unique fashion with a critigue of my play, The Code Of The West, by the artistic director of Buddies in Bad Times.  The play is about the 12 years that Cary Grant lived with actor Randolph Scott from 1932 to 1944.  It was written with a twenty minute deadline so the action was quick.  Well I wasn't accepted which I knew back in December, but it was nice to receive a critique.  Despite the "I hate bio-plays" line four times, the critique did offer some good points for my taking this play a little further.  Todd also read the play and liked it.  I want to expand the actors from three to five at some point as well as create a few more scenes to give more emotional involvement that twenty minutes was hard to do.

My work on The State Of Tennessee has been going well.  I'm working on one of the final scenes and I am really liking how it is flowing.  This play is about a young writer who seeks out his muse in Tennessee Williams and deals with revealing yourself and the process of writing.  I have been working on it for a while, but I have been taking lots of time between writing periods which I hope to cut back on. I only have a few scenes to write before I do the painful revisit and edit the play for a first draft.  I'm hoping to do a reading sometime in spring.  I was thinking february, but I want to give the play more time to gel.

One thing I love to work on are songs and I found that a former roommate, very musically gifted is entering the computer world with a webpage.  It was great to hear his voice again and I may send a song or two to him to see how he likes them.  They are not as consistent for me to write, but definitely a lot of fun for emotional expression.
