Writing Report: Sunday, August 20th, 2006
My absence from my report was due to my heavier than usual work load. This past two weeks have not been stellar for writing, though in many ways, it has helped me look at the bigger picture and smaller picture. I went to see a play at Summerworks by a young woman who has come to know me (she is a customer at my work) and I her. She is a remarkable playwright and actor and I have come to realize that my increased play watching is really starting benefit me knowing more people in the theatre community. It is from these connections that I need to create more lasting relationships and hopefully I might be returned with chances to show my work. I also came acrosee the realization that I need to focus on smaller projects. My plays often are going to full length and there is a need for smaller works that can be shown much faster. I have been working on a group of smaller plays and I think I may need to get those together while the larger ones shape themselves. I have also seen the need to write in other genres (which I have in the past) like short stories and articles with the intention of presenting them to publications. I have even been throwing the idea of a serial around again with more of a "my crazy life" focus. I had written a few entries already and I may try to present the stories to magazines in a bimonthly fashion, a constant deadline that keeps me going. Books I've Read: 1) Magical Thinking by Augusten Burroughs - one of my favourite non-fiction writers these days, this book cracked me up almost as much as Dry and Running With Scissors. Talented and funny, a must read. 2) Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit - a children's book made into a movie a few years back. Liked it a lot and you can see where children's books started to change away from more young adult fare with this one. Lots of lessons of life in the lines of this book. 2006-08-21 04:30:25 GMT
