Steven Jackson - A Writer's Journey
Welcome to my writing world where you can see where my creativity takes me.
Writing Report - Saturday, August 5th, 2006
An amazing week of creativity! I managed to finish my last draft on "Fathers And Sons" before I send it to a few theatres and their play development sections in September. I have been researching the theatres in Toronto on where it best fits. I'm also looking into smaller production companies that I had a chance to see during the Fringe Festival this year. I'm hoping maybe to volunteer for one to get some more practical experience (and connections can't hurt either :)). I'm very happy with the play, getting it back to a more managable 99 pages in proper format. I may have to do one more leaf through for any formating mistakes, but I'm sure it's fine. It's much tighter in plot and dialogue than ever before. Very cool feeling.

I also finished my report on my experience for the Chicago Gay Games and submitted it to Team Toronto. It was fun to do something that could have been boring and make it into something more creative and fun. Hoping that they like it. :)

The end of the week has been a relook at some of the other plays. No work done on Tennessee, but I have been reconceptualizing The Code Of The West and looking at my short plays about my twenties which I want to get finished first draft wise by the end of the year, ironically as my twenties end. I found the four short plays I want to use, one from university, one from when a year after I moved, one from this year's 24 playwriting competition and a new one that I am putting together now.

Books I've Read:
1) Death In Venice by Thomas Mann - Older man goes to Venice and obsesses over young boy while death falls around him. A little wordy for me, but okay as a quick read.

2) Who's Afraid Of Virginia Wollf by Edward Albee - Smartly written characters are the real reason to read this play. Not necessarily likeable, but then sometimes the best characters are not.
