Steven Jackson - A Writer's Journey
Welcome to my writing world where you can see where my creativity takes me.
Writing Report: Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 (Special)

Last night, I went to see the production of Tom Stoppard's play The Real Thing at Soulpepper down at the Distillery.  What an amazing play!  Filled with witty dialogue and genuine feeling and emotion, the play centres around a couple, Henry and Annie, created out of the infidelity of both people and their relationship is represented by their scenes as well as a play within a play that Henry has helped write.  I need to pick up a copy of this play because I found myself being taken by many pieces of dialogue that seemed very close to me and my own quest for love.

What struck me about this play is that every line fit into the scheme of the play.  Every line has to have a purpose and if it does not, it must go.  I also was fascinated by the use of fantasy in the scheme of reality, much like what I'm trying to create with Tennessee and I think I may need to explore more of that.  It would definitely help scenes where I tend to explain rather than show and give the feeling the writers are creating rather just talking
