Horticulture is a two-year program, which provides related instruction and hands-on experience in the areas of greenhouse, landscape, nursery, turf, and floral design.
Skills Learned:
Landscape desigh, maintenance, greenhouse production, floral design, lawn maintenance, nursery production, and small business management skills.
Environmental Management
Grade 10
1-year program
This is a one-year program designed to help students better understand the impact of the environment and natural resources on our lives. This course is open to sophomores, but freshmen will be considered for enrollment if te class is not full.
Skills Learned: Environmental management, natural resource conservation, landscape design, and greenhouse management.
Grade 11&12
2-year program
Horticulture careers are growing faster than the national average. Horticulture Tech Prep is a four-period program taught within the Horticulture curriculum. The Horticulure Tech Prep graduates can find employment after graduation occupations such as landscape maintenance, golf course worker, nursery worker, and more.
Gradutes from Horticulture Tech Prep program can complete an associae degree at Ohio State University Agriculture Technical Institute and complete a Bachelor's degree or go on to advanced graduate work. Horticulture Tech Prep associate degree graduates can be employed as a landscape designer/manager, floral designer/manager, greenhouse technician/manager, golf course superintendent and more.
Skills Learned:
Skills taught are similar to that of the Horticulture program. The use of math and science skills will be utilized in job placement and when the student attends college at Ohio State University.
