In Memory of Pandora

May 1987 - September 1999

She came to the shelter as a stray kitten without a home.
She seemed to have a way of saying she would fit in just fine,
if we would adopt her to the shelter and give her a chance.
We were yet to find out that she would become the boss.
We gave her the name "Pandora", for such a unique girl she
would become. Throughout the years she seemed to grow on us.
She would greet all the new animals and try her best to find
Each one a home. She would be in the window as if to say,
"Good luck and goodbye" to them on their way out the gate.
When sadness was among us she seemed to say, " It will be
alright, just hang in there." She brought laughter to all of us
in trying to teach everyone what she knew. It was as if she was
an angel sent down to guide us. But now she is gone, only to
return as an angel to watch over us. Her purrs will remain deep
within our hearts and Pandora will never be forgotten by us.

Pandora's Pet Talk

Pet Talk

I just happened to have the kind of cat fur that mats very easily. My staff tries to keep my fur brushed out, but I always throw a fit after a minute or so. They discovered that my fur was so matted underneath, that shaving my belly was the only way to rid me of the mats. They held me down against my will and used the electric shaver on me. I made them think they were being very cruel by screaming, squirming and clawing, but they did not give up until they had finished. I chose not to speak to them for several days, but secretly I feel so much better. I believe I will allow them to brush me more often without throwing a fit just to prevent that electric shaver ordeal.

On Memorial Day we all remember our loved ones that have passed away. We are asking those who have a beloved pet that has gone to heaven to send us a picture of it with no more than 25 words explaining its name, dates and memorial words. We will feature it on our website on Memorial Day. All entries must be in by May 25 and it can either be dropped off at my shelter or mailed to P.O. Box 44, Cottageville, WV 25239. In my heart this will be a great tribute to those we have loved and lost.

My Pet Pick Prissy is a pretty Spitz/Pom mix. At 5 months old she is already house-trained, fetches, plays ball, obeys commands, and is good with children and animals. She especially loves cats! I also have Precious a female 2 yr. old Peke/Spaniel mix, Laddie a Lab mix, a 2 yr. old female Rottweilier, and a German Shepherd mix female that likes to bare all of its teeth with a great big grin.

We want to thank all those who are already bringing nice things for our Yard Sale and thank the children from Cottageville Elementary School for their visit.

A very handsome fella has taken up residence in Ravenswood and has been there for several weeks. The local townspeople are complaining to us as this fella wakes them up by crowing at 3:00 a.m. every morning and they are sick and tired of being deprived of their sleep. Mike has made several attempts to rescue him, but he always escapes by running under a house. This week my staff came up with a well laid plan. Terri, Mike and Cindy, all equipped with nets, made a big effort to catch him. They found him strutting around the neighborhood so Terri's job was to guard the house that he would always go under. Mike and Cindy chased him with their nets. Mike got pretty close to him as he was crossing the street and with stretched out arms holding the net, Mike tripped and fell flat in the middle of the street. A car was approaching, but stopped when they saw a man lying in the street, Cindy running with a net and Terri on guard. The driver did not ask any questions, but hurriedly turned around and went the other way. We are told the best time to catch this fella is at night when he goes to sleep. This rascal roots in a tall pine tree at night that almost reaches the sky and no one can reach him. I must say, he is very intelligent and is a real escape artist. Therefore, we have named him Houdini. Hopefully, we will find a way to catch him and place him in a good home on a farm.

Gabby's Pet Tip: He says check your pet for burrs as the burr plants are now developing. Burrs cause the fur to mat and the paws and ears to get sore if not removed. Keep your pet healthy and happy by checking them often.
