My Career In Wrestling

Beginnings

I have been a wrestling fan since I was a young boy. Mainly I watched wrestling and wrestled with my dad and friends when I was younger, just goofing around. The moment that officially launched my wrestling career came when my dad bought me a video camera for my birthday in 1995. On that day, the East Texas Wrestling Federation was born. The original group was Josh "The Bullet" Holland, Shane "The Ultimate Maniac" Charles, J.P. "The Horrible" Charles, and myself. Our original "ring" was a mattress in my room. We used a couch, chairs, and anything else we could find to dive off of. After breaking that very couch, my parents told us we had to wrestle outside. So, at that point, I guess you could say I began my "backyard" wrestling career. "The Doc" David Giles, Scott "The Show" Badeaux, Dustin "The Scotsman" Cross, and a few others came in shortly after that. Giles, Badeaux and I became the lifeblood of our promotion from this point up until the end.

Turf War

Around the same time that Cross & Badeaux came into the promotion, Terry "T-Man" Bennett and Josh "Ash" Sparks came onto the scene. They were Panola College students, who heard about our promotion, and wanted to be a part of it. David Giles and I had one match against them, and then we had to fire them because Bennett was caught in several lies, which would become a recurring pattern with him. As a result of us firing him, Bennett formed the "New Blood of Wrestling". I agreed to come over to their promotion for two reasons. The ETWF was in a lull at the time, and they agreed to a title vs title match between the Unknown Soldier and T-Man, which I won to unify the ETWF and NBOW hardcore titles. Scott Badeaux was the only other ETWF talent that wrestled on a NBOW show, defeating Unknown Soldier at their last show. They had wrestlers like The Dopeman, The Blood Brothers, Greasemonkey, and several female announcers and valets. I was managed in this promotion by Shelbye "Felicity" Porter. In the end, the fed closed down when a lot of the guys moved away.

Southern Wrestling Federation

The SWF was a federation made up of the ETWF guys, and the leftover NBOW guys. We also brought in a few guys from Henderson, who brought new life into the promotion. Archangel, Blaze, Dracan, Cash, J-Rock, Kamikaze, Iceman, and others came in, and those SWF shows were some of the most entertaining ones we did.

International Wrestling Alliance

The SWF was changed to the IWA simply because we wanted a name that sounded more national. At this time we had the largest crew of guys we'd ever had, and we were working with the Lewisville Wrestling Federation, WaR out of Amarillo, and eventually, Gladewater Championship Wrestling. It was at this time that we started doing shows in a professional ring in Tyler, Texas. We did 1 huge ring show with WaR and LWF, several ring shows with us and LWF, and then we took a break. I found a website for Gladewater Championship Wrestling shortly thereafter, and we agreed to do some interpromotional shows. GCW, at the time, was made up of teen and pre-teen wrestlers. Their ring was a piece of crap, and it seemed like they didn't want to work with our guys, if at all possible. For some reason, after a series of shows, we decided to merge the promotions into the Southern Wrestling Alliance.

Southern Wrestling Alliance

The SWA was doomed from the start. It was myself, David Giles, Steven Bell, and Patrick Wallace booking. Wallace and Bell had a corny theatrical kind of booking style, and Giles and I liked serious angles. We didn't know until later on that they'd shoot angles before and after the shows, and wouldn't even involve us in those. Anyways, to make a long story short, we did a few shows with them, and then Bell kicked us out via e-mail. I had been working on getting a TV deal for the SWA on a cable access channel at the time we were fired from the promotion. I defeated Sean Cordova on our final show to win the SWA Title, which they later said never took place because his foot was underneath the ropes.

Texas Xtreme Wrestling

After a few months of planning, we started Texas Xtreme Wrestling, our own indy fed. We used our crew, and several Texas indy workers such as Gemini, Khan, Joey Corman, Samir, and Mike Paige. We tried to make peace with Patrick Wallace, but after he no-showed our second show. We did a series of shows, and then brought the promotion to a halt in 2003.

Texas Elite Wrestling

David Giles and I worked 2 matches for Texas Elite Wrestling in January and February of 2006. It was another promotion that was run by Patrick Wallace, and after their refusal to do anything positive with us, other than let us wrestle each other, we retired as wrestlers. I stayed on and did commentary for a few shows, but after yet another falling out between Wallace and I, I left once again.

My future in wrestling: I would still like to have one last run in wrestling. I didn't like the way my career ended, and I still think that I could be successful as a wrestler, and as a booker. I am currently in negociations to be an announcer for a promotion out of Kilgore that will be starting up sometime in 2008. I may do some wrestling for them down the road, and I'm also not opposed to wrestling for any other promotions around the area, or starting up my own again.
