Jackson 8 lasted from 2001 to 2006.
who we are
Nazli Prisk -- bass, vocals, guitar
Dwayne Ray -- guitar, vocals, bass
Mariel Tam -- organ
Josh Prisk -- drums, sarcasm
Formed in 2001, Jackson 8 is four friends from Denton, Texas, who decided to form a rock 'n' roll band rather than let everyone else have all the fun. Our influences include coffee, cartoons, 45s and card games.
what we sound like
The Jackson 8 sound is difficult to pin down: Punk bands consider us rock since we play songs with big choruses and the occasional midtempo riff; rock bands consider us punk because those choruses are usually belted out at the top of our lungs and, though we don't have mohawks, we still find the time to rock out to Iron Maiden "ironically."
what "they" say about us
"The lowest of the fi's. ... They can't sing, they can't play, they can't mix, they can't layout, this band is awesome!!! Think Rock 'n' Roll Adventure kids, but a little slower and way more sloppy."
"As long as there are basements and garages there will always be basement and garage bands. ... The Jackson 8 are an example in its truest sense. Exuberance is more important than aptitude."
"Yes, they are fun and cute and they always bring a few Japanese art students to their shows; but I mean, they aren't that fun and that cute and don't bring that many Japanese art students to their shows."
-- The Fold zine, May 2004 who we've played with
Erase Errata, the Sons of Hercules, Dirt Bike Annie, the Epoxies, the Groovie Ghoulies, the Riverboat Gamblers, the Dollyrots, "Demons", Peelander-Z, the Casual Dots and more.
why you should see us
1. It's impossible to see the Jackson 8 and not hum at least one of those catchy melodies.
2. Nazli knows several jokes in Turkish.
3. We're putting out our first full-length album on Feb. 24, 2006, on our own Beatkid Records.
4. We recorded it two years ago. We're slow.
5. We do rock songs about beatniks, comics, mixtapes and makin' it with you.
