Grow Boxes, Part 2
Okay gang, here it is! I have found an easier way to build my grow boxes. You will have to buy something. Before you bite my head off, hear me out. Yes, you have to spend $2.00 per grow box. That’s the only down side.
The pros are these:
* Good size for small and medium trees
* Deep
* Uniform- looks better than wooden boxes
* Lasts forever
* Easy to transport and move
* Still pretty Cheap
* Quicker to make

I was in my local Big Lots (a close-out store). I saw these plastic containers, and they rang a chord with me. One of the biggest problems I have had with the boxes I described in part one of "Grow Boxes" is the depth. Now granted, you don’t want the grow boxes so deep that they create a tap root, but I am experiencing run-off of my carefully blended soil in some of the wooden boxes. These grow containers solve that.
Step One

Any shape plastic storage bin will work. I cut the bottom out. I leave just a small rim to allow me to glue the screening to. This allows much improved drainage and soil aspiration.

Step Two
Now I whip out my hot glue gun and glue a piece of screening material to the bottom. I do this by running a bead of hot glue around the perimeter of the hole. Then I place the pre-cut screen material onto the glue and use a piece of wood (not my finger!) to press the screen into the glue.

Then I flip the container over and glue it from the bottom.

Step Three
Turn it back over and fill with dirt and bonsai trees!

That's it. Each one takes about 4 minutes to make. If you have any suggestions or comments, let me know!
