We're In A State Of War Dear
(Epoch Three: 1986-1988)

In case you haven't gotten
the lingering hint,
Keeping your head buried
In the sand
Pretending you forgot.

Instead of another clue
I regrettably declare
You and I are caught
In a state of war, dear.

It erupted
When you made it clear
I was as insufficient
As a crumbled up can
Left behind in a vacant
Parking lot.

Why were you so cross
With someone who thought
The world of you.

Many times you tried to reason
Pleading with me to let you go-
Many times I tried but I guess
I must be slow.

So as an alternative
You decided to lose control

An treat me like an animal
In a cage.

This time I did as I was told.
The prison walls being self treason
And indiscreet rage.

Needless to say, people run away
Leaving me to growl uninterrupted.

I can't promise from the start
What will unfold.
Even if I'm set free
Scars will still remain.

Once again I may cross
The borderline.
Causing you more pain
Even though mine it won't console.
We're in a state of war, dear.
And I had wished for so much more.
At first I sought
Your love eternally.
Then I was willing to settle for less
But even that you wouldn't spare.

We're in a state of war, dear
No matter what the outcome
I cannot win.
For you rather face eternal rest
Than to allow me in
Your heart and soul.
