Then And Now
(Epoch Four: 1989-1999)
Then I was spring
And promising.
Now I am summer
And compromising,
All my dreams.
And it seems,
I will never get my degree
In being the best I can be.
Then I thought
I could think
Like Einstein.
Now I exist
Like a pen without ink.
Carrying on a heated conversation
With a warm bottle of wine.
Looking for every regret
I can find.
The list is endless.
Then I felt like Superman.
Able to leap tall buildings
In a single bound.
Now I want to squeeze
Someone's hand.
Afraid I will trip over
My own shoe lace.
Then I was arrogant and brass.
Any door I would knock
I would be invited in.
Now I walk with my head down,
It seems they forgot.
Time is an unfailing foe.
You can wear a mask,
But it won't last.
Sooner or later
You will be just another face
In a lonely crowd.
Wiping the sweat from your brow,
Wondering what ever happened
Between then and now.
