Street Clown
(Epoch Two: 1983-1985)
He often wears a smile for appearance.
From an immense want developed a vast will.
To play the fool and make people laugh.
He performs for a fickle audience,
Who abandoned him once his material falls flat.
Sad eyes sluggishly dance him by.
While sheepish utterances pay compliments freely.,
He is flattered until,
He dispiritedly confronts his old too familiar empty hat.
From the balcony he appears to be an unworried
sight.
If by some remote chance you get closer, you would see
A child laboring,
Just to keep his feet firmly on the ground.
He frequently tears into unorchestrated laughter.
It's his funny way of keeping from catching an attitude.
He can tell a funny joke or anecdote, or witty pun
But after all is said and done
He hasn't spoken a word of truth.
For when he no longer embraces the spotlight.
He feels his life is like a dark, infinite, empty playground.
