If Love Were Like An Old Movie
(Epoch Three: 1986-1988)
The years I know
I cannot hide.
Nor can I return
For a different me.
So why do I continue
To spend them in a world
Of make-believe?
You can catch me
Seated in the front row
At the Regency.
Where they show
Movies the way
They used to be.
When love was upright and true.
Like a flower.
With movie stars
Whom we idolized.
She was my Alice Faye,
I her Tyrone Power.
We would stay until after midnight.
Then stroll through Central Park.
We would hide
Under the summer moonlight.
Which was more alluring
Then the lonely dark.
With love sick eyes
Dancing side by side.
Our immense love enlarged us.
Together we had no one to fear.
She was my Ginger Rogers,
I her Fred Astaire.
With tears she said
Our reunion had seen
Our glorious past turned
To regret eternally.
After she went, so did my mind.
True love had visited me
But once in this lifetime
Reality was never so mean.
