Free Advice
(Epoch One: 1979-1982)
I can't understand
Why you give free advice.
When you don't take it,
Instead you decide
To forsake it
For a drink in your hand.
Listening to other people speak
With controlled empathy.
Wanting sincerely
To give uncompromising support.
With one hand extended
For anyone to grasp,
With the other
Thinking they are blind
You quietly pour another glass.
Unable to have it remain empty.
Even through you try to hide.
You've been caught
Staring at the ground
Looking at defeat,
And your emptiness
Which only you can see.
When it comes to self-analysis,
You no longer wear a crown.
I hope you understand,
No malice intended.
Just free advice,
Before you can show
Someone how to stand
On their own two feet
You should know
How to walk a straight line.
