Dear Tori
(Epoch Three: 1986-1988)

Dear Tori:
Can I have a minute
Of your time.
May I have a moment
Of glory.
Two nickels will always amount
To a dime,
But love is a different story.

Some people believe
It doesn't require
An equation for one
To be in.
With closed eyes,
I listen to them.
For me it has been
A never ending chapter,
A seemingly endless obstacle
I must mount.

Sometimes someone
From afar
Can graze a deep
Burning desire
And not even know
Who you are.

Some people believe,
I'm struck only on your beauty.
Here I simply demur,
For if I were blind,
Your words have brought me
Longing wisdom.
Your intrepid cries
Have made me awake to mine.

Dear Tori:
I see my time is running low.
So while my heart I fasten,
Let me be perfectly clear.
I've done all that can be done,
And still your passion
I could not stir.
Instead all that exist
Is a listless and callous stare.

Before I leave
Let me leave with this.
I uncompromisingly decree
"Even though I know
Though painfully true
I can never make you mine
Nothing or no one can stop me
From always loving you."
