A Man Like Hemingway
(
Epoch Two: 1983-1985)

He said he had no regrets.
He didn't need your love
Or anyone else.
He was unrelenting
No one could change his way.

Although he didn't know
He resolved others shared his lot,
Happy hermits who weren't sad
If someone dear forget.

He trusted none but worse
He was contented.
He thought like Hemingway,
Be independent and macho
Don't believe in romance.

I supposed he recognized
What his mentor last wrote.
"A man alone ain't got no chance."
Next to his still, blood-clothed torso
Was a note in a self addressed envelope.
