A Good Friend Of Mine
(Epoch One: 1979-1982)

He worships people's company,
Often offering them a helping hand.
Listening to their problems and troubles,
Allowing him to deny his own.
Instead he smiles and tells them
How wonderful it is to be alive.
And when they talk of suicide,
He looks baffled as if to say
He doesn't understand why.

But when he's without people's company,
And alone with his thoughts
He can give his reasons why.
Clutching his first, ranting silently,
Listening to himself think incoherently
About the turmoil in his life.
Which, by himself, he cannot hide.
