About Jack
Jack Nicholson will star in "About Schmidt," alongside Hope Davis, Kathy Bates and Dermot Mulroney. The film, based loosely on the novel by Louis Begley, is about Warren Schmidt, a widowed man in his 60s who is struggling with deception. The story focuses on his relationship with his daughter (Davis) and his expectations for her life. Mulroney plays the daughter's fiancé and Bates is Mulroney's mother. A release date has not been announced.

Jack Nicholson received his 2001 Kennedy Center Honor on Dec. 2 in Washington, D.C., at the Kennedy Center. Also honored were: Julie Andrews, Luciano Pavarotti, Quincy Jones and Van Cliburn.
Secretary of State Colin Powell officially bestowed the honors on the stars Dec. 1 at a State Department dinner.

Manning the phones
Jack Nicholson was among celebrities who manned the phones during the all-star "America: A Tribute to Heroes" telethon, which benefitted the victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The telethon was held on Sept. 21 and aired on more than a dozen television stations. They all-star phone bank also included Al Pacino, Sylvester Stallone, Sally Field, Kurt Russell, Goldie Hawn, Michael Keaton, Brad Pitt, Adam Sandler, Meg Ryan, Chris Rock, Tom Cruise, Cuba Gooding Jr., Reba McEntire and more. The telethon also featured dozens of top-name musicians performing both patriotic and contemporary music. It drew an audience of 59 million and raised more than $150M in pledges. New honor for Nicholson
Jack Nicholson has been named among the winners of the 2001 Kennedy Center Honors. The center announced its list -- which also includes Julie Andrews, Luciano Pavarotti, Quincy Jones and Van Cliburn -- of honorees Sept. 4. The quintet of musical and acting stars will be honored Dec. 2 in a gala at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
