Ballroom, Wyndemere: Stefan(and Bobbie are greeting guests when Sonny, Carly and Brenda enter)Mr. and Mrs. Corinthos, welcome to the party.(then he enfolds Brenda in his arms)Brenda, my dear, you look more beautiful than even I thought you would in that dress. Brenda(beams up at him)Thank you, father. Stefan:Brenda, would you mind if when I publicly announce my engagement to Barbara if I were to also announce that you're my daughter. Sonny:That wouldn't be a good idea. Stefan:Whyever not, Mr. Corinthos. Brenda:I'd like to know the answer to that, too, Sonny. Carly:He probably thought it would overshadow your engagement to my mother. That's why we're all here, after all. Not to listen to you announce to the world that not only is Brenda a bitch, she's a bastard, as well. Bobbie:Carly! Stefan:How dare you! Barbara, control your whelp! Brenda:It's all right, Father, I'm used to her treating me like this. Stefan:You shouldn't have to put up with that kind of treatment from anyone. You're the daughter of Stefan Cassadine and you should command respect. Mr. Corinthos, why don't you do something with your wife.(he turns to Bobbie)Barbara, would you mind if I announced Brenda is my daughter at the same time I announce our engagement. Bobbie:No, of course, not. Stefan:There, then it's settled. Sonny(grabs Carly by the arm and pulls her aside)Do something. Carly(examines her fingernails innocently)What do you expect me to do? If the man wants to announce that Brenda is his daughter, let him announce it. Sonny:Tell them the truth, now! Stop Cassadine from public acknowledging Brenda as his daughter. Carly:I told you. I'll tell him after the party is over and not before. Sonny:You're enjoying this, aren't you? You do know when the truth comes out he's going to end up looking like a big fool, don't you? Carly:(smirks)Yes, I know that. In fact, I'm really starting to look forward to telling the pompous jackass I'm his daughter, not Brenda. Now if you'll excuse me, I see my grandmother over there and I'd like to talk to her for a few moments. Sonny(hisses at Carly's back)Carly! (but she ignores him and keeps walking. He turns back to Stefan and Bobbie who have been joined in the receiving line by Brenda as they continue greeting their guests)Well, if you won't do something about this, Carly, then I will. (he heads over to the trio) Carly(comes up to Helena)Have you got it, Grandmother? Helena(turns to her sipping a glass of champagne)No, "How are you doing, Grandmother? I'm so glad to see you. Are you enjoying yourself?". Carly:Were you able to get me a copy of Brenda's dressso I can wear it to impersonate her. Where is it? You did bring it, here, with you, didn't you? Helena:Calm down, my dear. To answer your question. Yes, I got it and it's here. I had one of my servants sneak into the house and stash the gown up in the attic for you. It's there awaiting you as we speak. Carly:(looks around)Is there another way I can get up to the attick without anyone, here, seeing me go up the stairs? Helena:If you slip into the kitchen, unnoticed, there's a back staircase that will take you right up to the attic with no one none the wiser. Carly:Good, I'll go there, now. Helena:Don't be so anxious, my dear. The party's just begun. You have plenty of time. Carly:Grandmother, I've waited long enough. I've been waiting ever since that day in the airport when I came to tell Sonny he was Michael's father and we were going to have another baby, only to find my husband in Brenda Barrett's arms. I'm through waiting. I'm not going to wait, any longer. Helena:Very well. You go and get dressed and I'll send a servant to you to let you know whe it's safe for you to re-enter the party as Brenda Barrett. Carly(glares at Brenda standing in the receiving line with her parents as she exits)Enjoy your moment of triumph, Brenda, because it's going to be your last. Not it's going to be my turn. First, I'm going to get my husband back, and then I'm going to get my father. Sonny(sidles up to Bobbie)Bobbie, I really need to talk to you for a minute. Do you think we could go somewhere private for a few minutes. Bobbie:Can it wait until, later, Sonny? I really have to stay here and greet my guests. Sonny:I guess it'll have to. Brenda(turns to Sonny)Baby, would you mind going into the party without me. My father asked me to join the receiving line and I just couldn't tell him no. Sonny(kisses her on the forehead)No, of course not. I'll see you later.(he starts to walk into the party)I'm sorry, Carly, but I can't let this go on any longer. I know I promised you I wouldn't tell anyone your secret, but this is getting out of control.(he looks back at Stefan and Bobbie with Brenda)Carly's the one who should be standing with them greeting their guests, not Brenda. And they've all got to be told before this goes any further. Robert(and Anna watching Stefan, Bobbie and Brenda greet guests)Well, there's Brenda Barrett, now, but how are we going to get her alone to tell her her life is in danger. Anna:The receiving line has to end some time. The minute it does, we'll approach her and take her off somewhere private to tell her about her mother. Robert:You do realize to tell her the truth, we're going to have to tell her the whole truth. That the reason her mother wants to get rid of her is because if Brenda is introduced to her as Roberta Anderson she'll be able to reveal she's really Veronica Barrett which will make both Cassadine and Brenda realize they're not father and daughter, after all. Anna:Well, if has to come out some time that she's not really Cassadine's daughter. Better sooner than later, I say. Robert:Yes, but I don't think Ms. Barrett is going to welcome the news. Look at her, Anna. She's eating it up being in that receiving line with Cassadine and Bobbie. Anna:Yes, I can see that. But she'll have to know the truth some time and it mayaswell be now before she becomes too used to thinking of herself as a Cassadine. And right after we tell her, we've got to go and tell Bobbie the truth, as well. Robert:Agreed. Anna; There's Helena over there. Robert:It's not hard to miss her. She's the only one at the party whose not wearing a mask. Anna:Aside from talking to Carly for a few minutes ago, Helena's been alone. No Faison and no Veronica. Robert:I imagine she'll lay low. She won't want Brenda to see her until she's ready to make her move or to be introduced to Bobbie as Roberta Anderson. Oh, look, the reception line if finally ending. It's time to make our move.
