General Hospital: Carly(pacing the floor)Why don't they come out and tell us something. They've been in there with him forever. Sonny:Carly, I'm sure Michael's going to be fine. Kids get fevers like that all the time. When I was a kid, I remember always getting a high fever every once in awhile. If I remember correctly, I'd even break out in a rash the way Michael has. Carly:What would happen when you did. Sonny:I'd get a fever and the chills for a few hours and then it would go away and I was back to normal. Carly:Really? Sonny:Really. But to be on the safe side I think I'd better go and call AJ. Carly:Why do you have to tell him. You know what kind of stink he'll cause when he finds out about this. He'll try to blame us for Michael getting sick. He'll say we were taking good enough care of him. God, you don't know how much I wish AJ wasn't Michael's father. Sonny:But he is and if one of us doesn't call him, he'll raise an even bigger stink. Will you be okay while I call him. Carly(hugs him)I'll be fine. You made me feel better, just like you always do.(she watches him walk over to the pay phone) Grant(comes out of the examining room)Mrs. Corinthos, so we meet, again. Carly:Do you know what's wrong with my son. Grant:I've diagnosed him with having Matacumbe Syndrome. Carly:My god! What's that! Is my son going to die. Grant:Please calm down, Mrs. Corinthos, it's really nothing for you to be overly worried about. It's not as bad as it sounds. Carly:Just what is Matacumbe Syndrome? It sounds awful. Grant:It isn't, really. The name comes from a mosquito like insect called the Matacumbe. It's bite causes a person to suffer malaria like symptoms. This is pretty common in Latin and South America where the Matacumbe can be found. Have you taken Michael out of the country, recently, to somewhere like Puerto Rico, where the Matacumbe is common, there, where he could have been bitten by the insect. Carly:Not recently. When he was being cared for by Jason Morgan, he took Michael to Puerto Rico a few times. Is that how this happened? Grant:Has Michael ever been sick like this before. Carly:No, he's been perfectly healthy up until now. Grant:Then that can't be it. There is one other way he could have Matacumbe Syndrome. My guess is that he's inherited from his father. That's the strange thing about the Matacumbe. For some reason when the Matacumbe bites someone of latino heritage the toxins remain in the bloodstream of the victim and when they have children their children are born with the toxins in their bloodstreams and throughout their childhoods the children suffer from periodic fevers until they hit puberty. When I was going through your husband's medical history I noticed his mother was born and raised in Puerto Rico, and as I said the Matacumbe is very common there. It's my guess she was bitten as a child and passed the toxins that remained in her bloodstream onto her son and your husband in turn passed them on to your son. As I said, it's really nothing to worry about. (his beeper goes off)I've really got to get that. Michael's fever has already gone down and you should be able to take him home with you in a few hours.(he heads to nurses desk) Carly(calls after him but he doesn't hear)But Sonny isn't Michael's father. AJ is. Sonny(returns)I called AJ. He acted like a jerk, just like we suspected he would. You're not going to believe this. He tried to blame me because Michael has a fever. Like I gave it to him or something.(Carly suddenly starts laughing)What's so funny/ Carly, are you all right? I saw Dr. Andrews talking to you. Michael is going to be all right, isn't he? Carly:I'm fine and so is Michael. His fever has already broken. Sonny, I know this is the first time you've really been on your feet since what happened to you, but could you take Michael home when he's ready to be released. I really need to go see my mother. Sonny:Of course, do what you need to do. I'll be just fine. Helena's Yacht: Helena(as Stefan enters)My, my, Steffy. Two visits in the same week. Be still my heart. Stefan;Barbara told me about the little deal you two made. Helena;Did she really? And are you here to tell me the deal is off? Stefan:Quite the contrary. I'm here to find out just how important to you that painting really is and to make sure you don't try to double-cross Barbara. Helena:How gallant. And how am I to prove to you how important my painting is to me and that I won't doublecross your Barbara. Stefan:Quite simply, really. I'm willing to keep the deal Barbara made with you, with a few minor alterations to said deal. Helena:Such as? Stefan:Such as aside from turning over that tape you have of Barbara and I disposing of Katherine... Helena:You make the poor unfortunate Miss Bell sound like a piece of trash you were leaving by the curb to be picked up by the garbage men. Stefan:...not only won't you help Jones takes custody of Lucas away from Barbara, you won't help him get off the charges, again, either. Helena:Are you saying you want me to let my bridegroom fry, so to speak. You want me to do nothing to stop him from being sent to prison before I've even enjoyed a honeymoon with him. You want me to let him be sent away to the big house where I'll never be able to see him, again. Stefan:Don't be so melodramatic, Mother. There is such a thing called visiting hours. Besides, you and I both know you could care less about Jones. That you only married him to get at me. You also know that Jones is a menace to society and that he needs to be locked up. Helena:That's what some say about me. Stefan:Once the prison officials observe him, they'll realize he's mentally unstable and put him in Ferncliff where he truly belongs and where he can get the help he needs. Helena:Oh, you're doing this for Dr. Jones own good, are you? How magnanimous of you, Stefan. Stefan:Oh, please, Mother. You know once the novelty of Jones wears off, he ceases to amuse you and you tire of toying with him, you'll have him disposed of, anyway. Just consider this the shortcut, without you having to get your hands dirty in the process. Helena:Your way I won't have any fun. And I'll have you know I adore getting my hands dirty. Stefan:But my way you get your painting back. Which is more important to you. Toying with Jones or finally having your painting back in your possession. Helena:I never thought I'd see the day you'd find a woman more important to you than keeping that painting away from me was to you. Even Lasha didn't rate that. You're obviously doing this for Barbara. I do believe you're actually in love with her. I never thought you'd ever feel about another woman the way you did about Roberta Anderson. Stefan:How dare you mention here name to me after what you did to ruin things between us. Helena:That's still a sore spot with you, I see. Are you still carrying a torch for your first love. Stefan:It was just a silly teenage dalliance. It would have never lasted even if you hadn't forced me to break things off with her. Now can we get back to the matter at hand. Do we have a deal or not. Helena:Yes, Stefan, we have a deal. Wyndemere: Bobbie(as Carly enters)Mrs. Lansbury told me you were here. Carly:I've never asked you this before, but now I need to know. Do you know who my father is. Bobbie:Why are you asking me this after all this time. Carly:You didn't answer me. Do you have any idea who my father was or was he just one of your faceless johns and you have no idea which one was the one who knocked you up. Bobbie:No, I know who your father is. He wasn't, as you put it, one of my many faceless johns. Why is this suddenly so important for you to know. Carly:Because if he wasn't of latin descent, that means Sonny is Michael's father. Disclaimer: There is no such disease called the Matacumbe Syndrome or no such insect called the Matacumbe' it's just something I made up for storyline purposes. The name Matacumbe comes from the Disney movie, "The Treasure Of Matacumbe."
