CHAPTER SEVENTY-NINE

THE DOCKS:

Alexis: I don’t find that the least bit funny. You and I aren’t even in the same species.

Sonny: Hate to disappoint you, sis, but you and I came off the same tree.

Alexis: That’s ridiculous, and stop calling me “sis”. My mother loved one man and only one man, and that was my father, Mikkos.

Sonny: But you’re forgetting something. He isn’t your father, so what you were told obviously wasn’t true.

Alexis: How would my mother ever meet your father, anyway.

Sonny: Well, my old man was in the military. It was his uniform that originally attracted my mother to him. Maybe it had the same effect on yours, too. Just when were you born, anyway.

Alexis: None of your business and why do you ask?

Sonny: Well, if you were conceived during the war, that would answer the question of how.

Alexis: How do you know that we’re related, anyway?

Sonny: My people called up and told me.

Alexis: Did they say what kind of proof they found to make them reach such a ridiculous conclusion?

Sonny: No, they just said we’re related and that was enough for me.

Alexis: Well, that’s not enough for me. I want proof...solid evidence. Without that I refuse to believe this nonsense.

AJ: Stop.(he stopped his man from cutting the frayed rope any further, as he continued to watch the crate hovering over Sonny and Alexis head, now just being held up by a slim thread of rope, while his henchman started getting a little nervous)

Henchman: Why did you stop me, Boss? They’re in the perfect position. If we let the crate go now, there’s no chance either one of them will survive.

AJ: I think we should let gravity do the rest for us. I’m curious if the rope will hold up until Carly gets here. I want her to witness her husband being squashed like a bug. It’ll be her punishment for being more of a wife to him in the short time they’ve been married, then she ever was to me. Besides it adds something to the kill this way. It adds a bit of tension to when the rope will finally give away and splatter Sonny all over the docks.

STEFAN’S ROOM, GENERAL HOSPITAL:

Stefan(glared at Helena as she entered his room)What are you doing here, Mother? Have you come to hold a pillow over my face while I sleep so you can pass it off as me dying from the transplant.

Helena(smiled) Oh, Stefan, you’re paranoid suspicions have gotten tedious. Actually, if you knew what I knew, then you’d know how ridiculous that accusation is.

Stefan: What is that supposed to mean.

Helena: You’re very lucky the doctors were able find a transplant donor for you before it was too late. It’s been quite a ride to get to this place, hasn’t it? First, there was Emily who wasn’t a compatible donor, then there was Carly who was a compatible donor, but refused to give you one of her kidneys. I wonder who your donor could have been.

Stefan: I don’t care. All I care about is I’m going to be fine.

Helena: But surely you must be curious about who’s kidney you now have in your body. Both Emily and Carly were relatives. Do you suppose the kidney donor was a family member, too?

Stefan: What is this all about?(then he suddenly noticed she was wearing a robe)And why are you dressed that way.

Helena(turned a evil smile on him)Why do you think, Stefan?

Stefan(shook his head in denial as the horrifying realization began to sink in.)No! No, not you! I won’t have your kidney inside of me.

Helena: Too late! You already do. (she leaned down and ran a finger, caressingly, over his face)You’ve always whined that I gave more to Stavros than I did to you as a child. Do you feel better now that you have a part of me inside you keeping you alive.

Stefan(shoved her hand away from him)I’ll make the doctors take it out of me.

Helena: Don’t be ridiculous, Stefan. They’ll never agree to do that. Face facts, Stefan. You’re stuck with my kidney. There’s nothing you can do about it.

Stefan: Oh, there’s something I can do, all right. I can repay you in full for giving me your kidney. You see, Mother, I know you’re the Sex Toy Stalker. Once I can prove it, I’m going to send you up the river and then I’m going to smile as I watch them strap you in the electric chair and fry you.

Helena: You ungrateful little brat. After I just saved you, you intend to send me to death row. Well, we’ll just see about that!(with that, Helena spun on her heel and stormed out of the room, but before leaving she turned back to him). Stefan, you’ve never beaten me, and you never will.

THE DOCKS:

AJ(could barely contain his mirth as he watched strand after strand of hope slowly giving away, until the crate hovering over Sonny and Alexis’ heads was hanging by a mere thread of rope.)It’s going to be any second now. (he looked to the road)Come on, Carly, if you don’t hurry you’re going to miss it.

Sonny: This is getting us nowhere. (for the past few minutes he and Alexis were arguing back and forth about the validity of the information he’d been given that Mike was Alexis’ father.) I’ll get back in touch with my people and demand they give you the information that lead them to the conclusion Mike is your father. (just then the screeching of tires rent the air and Sonny and Alexis looked towards Sonny’s limo as Carly jumped out)

Carly(stared in horror at the crate hanging above Sonny’s head and screamed as the rope finally gave away)Sonny! Look out!
