CHAPTER ONE-HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN
THE SAFEHOUSE:
Sonny(shrieked)What do you mean your water broke!
Carly: (shrieked back)What do you think I mean! I’m in labor.
Sonny: (voice went up an even higher level and Carly winced as it went through her head)You can’t be in labor! We’re on the run for god’s sake. If I take you to a hospital, the mob will find us and kill us.
Carly: That’s why you’re going to have to deliver the baby.
Sonny: Me! I don’t know nothing about birthing no babies.
Carly: No, you just excel at putting them inside me. Well now you’re going to have to deal with the consequences of your actions.
Sonny: Look, Carly, you’ve had a kid before. Surely you don’t need my help. Didn’t women use to drop them in the field all by themselves in the olden days without any help from the men and continue on with their work?
Carly: I hate to break it to you, Sonny, but I’ve never given birth before. They had to take Michael out of me. I was out cold when the entire thing happened.
Sonny: Oh great, that means neither of us knows what the heck we’re supposed to do.
Carly: As you so kindly pointed out, in the old days men and women brought their children into the world without the help of a doctor. If they did it, then so can we.
Sonny: We didn’t even sit through one whole Lamaze class.
Carly(grabbed Sonny by the shirt as she was hit by another contradiction)Look, Sonny, we made this baby together, and that’s just how we’re going to bring her into the world. Together! Now help me into the bedroom. Now!
STEFAN’S BEDROOM, WYNDEMERE:
Bobbie(was brushing her hair in front of her mirror when Stefan entered)I can’t believe you put me through that when you knew the guns were loaded with blanks. Do you know what you put me through!
Stefan: I had to be sure you’d choose me over DeLucca and you did.
Bobbie: And why was that so important to you?
Stefan: You betrayed me when we were married, Barbara. You chose your brother over me. I needed you to choose me, this time.
Bobbie: And what about me? You betrayed me, as well, Stefan. I wouldn’t have betrayed you, if you hadn’t betrayed me, first. If it came down between me and your latest blonde obsession, would you choose me?
Stefan: Yes, I would.
Bobbie: You’re just saying that to appease me. If it came down to me and Laura, Katherine Bell or Chloe Morgan, you’d choose them over me in a heartbeat.
Stefan: No, I wouldn’t because what I share with you is real and what I shared with all of them wasn’t. You’re real and they were just fantasies.
Bobbie: What are you saying, Stefan?
Stefan: (pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately)I love you, just as you love me. (then he moved away from her)Now I’ve got to go.
Bobbie: You just told me you love me, and now you’re going to leave.
Stefan: Barbara, I’ve just put a loaded gun in Mr. DeLucca’s hand and pointed him in the direction of that woman pretending to be my mother. I have to be there when it goes down.
THE BEDROOM, THE SAFEHOUSE:
Carly(looked at a pale Sonny as he re-entered the room)How’s Michael?
Sonny: He’s still sleeping, thank god.
Carly: (was hit by another contraction, only this time it felt different)Sonny, get ready. I think the baby is coming.
Sonny: Carly, maybe it’s just like your other contractions and nothing is going to happen.
Carly: Sonny, I can feel the baby coming . It’s time. I’m going to push her out. And I want you to be there to catch her. I want your face to be the first thing she sees.
Sonny(reluctantly got down between Carly’s spread legs)I don’t think I can do this, Carly.
Carly(grabbed hold of his hand)I know you can. There isn’t anything you can’t do if you put your mind to it. There isn’t anything we can’t do if we do it together. (Carly began to push with all her might)Get ready, Sonny. You’re about to meet your daughter, at last.
