CHAPTER EIGHTY-FOUR

HELENA’S YACHT:

Helena(finished listening to the tape of Carly and AJ’s conversation)So the Doctor Quartermaine’s whelp has been trying to kill Sonny Corinthos. How interesting. To look at the spineless little twerp, you wouldn’t think he had it in him.

Andreas: What do you make of what Mrs. Corinthos said to him?

Helena: That she’d kill him? Not surprising. If she has my blood flowing through her veins, she’s more than capable of it.

Andreas: No, I was talking about her offering to leave her husband and return to AJ Quartermaine. Do you think she’s on the level?

Helena: I don’t think so. Think about it, Andreas. She wouldn’t give up one of her precious kidneys to save her own father’s life. Self-sacrifice is not in my dear granddaughter’s nature. To give up what she’s married to and return to that, I really don’t think so. No, I think she’s doing what I, myself, would do in the same situation. She setting the fool up. Do we know where she is at the moment.

Andreas: Actually, from on-deck, we should actually be able to see Mrs. Corinthos and Mr. Quartermaine meeting through a pair of binoculars without them even realizing they‘re being watched.

Helena: Excellent. While I get my binoculars, I want you to get me my digital camera. And be sure to put the zoom lens on it. Then meet me up on deck.

Andreas: Why?

Helena: Because, Andreas, I think what’s about to happen on those docks is something we definitely want to capture on film.

THE DOCKS:

AJ: (looked Carly up and down, insolently)You didn’t bring any luggage with you. And where is Michael. I assumed we’d be leaving for the airport, right away. Then we’d go to the Dominican Republic and get you and Sonny divorced and you and I remarried in one fell swoop. (Carly began to laugh) What’s so funny?

Carly: You! You actually believed I would leave Sonny for you. That I would let go of the only man I’ve ever truly loved, to return to a man I loathe and despise with every fiber of my being. To the man who murdered my baby. That I would actually give up the man whose body I crave, to return to the man whose touch has always repelled me. The only way I could bring myself to have sex with you was if I was drunk, publicly humiliated, trying to con you into thinking Sonny’s baby was yours or trying to live-up to a promise to Jason that I’d try to make my marriage work for Michael’s sake. Otherwise the thought of having to let you touch me made me sick to my stomach.

AJ(snarled)If that’s how you feel, then why did you tell me you’d leave Sonny if I promised not to harm him.

Carly: Because I knew you’d believe me. You see, I wanted you thinking that you’d won, so when you finally realized you’d lost you’d hit the ground like a sack of wet cement.

AJ: If you don’t intend to leave Sonny, then why did you ask me to meet you here?

Carly: You haven’t figured that out yet? I was sure you would. But then you are pretty slow, aren’t you. Well, then, I’ll just have to tell you. I’m giving you the same choices you gave me in regards to my dead baby and my husband. You’d kill them or you’d kill them. (then without a second of hesitation she fired the gun she’d been pointing at his chest through the concealing folds of the long, black cape she was wearing.)

AJ(fell backwards on the ground. He wore a dazed expression on his face.)I can’t believe it? You shot me. (he put a hand to his chest where blood was gushing from his wound, then looked at it)I’m bleeding.

Carly(walked over to him and looked down at him, coldly. Then she took the gun out from between the folds of her cloak and aimed it right between his eyes)Bye, bye, baby killer.

Sonny(arrived at the docks in time to hear the first gunshot. As he rushed towards the scene he hoped it still wasn‘t too late to stop her. Maybe Carly missed AJ or she was just trying to scare him. Even if she shot him, maybe it wasn’t too late to save him and prevent Carly from being charged with first degree murder. He could make some deal with AJ so he wouldn’t turn Carly in for shooting him. When he finally arrived on the scene, he saw Carly standing over AJ as she began to pull back the trigger. But AJ was still alive, so there was still a chance to turn this whole thing around.)Carly, don’t! Don‘t do it! It still isn‘t too late to turn this around. But if you pull that trigger it‘s going to be all over.

Carly:(turned to Sonny and looked deep into his eyes and smiled )I love you. (Sonny breathed a sigh of relief, believing he’d gotten here in time to stop her. He was left breathless with the unbelievable expression of love for him that she wore in her eyes as she looked at him. No one had every looked at him that way in his entire life.)

Sonny(rushed over to her, pulled her into his arms and kissed her passionately)I love you, too. I love you so much that I can no longer remember a time that I wasn’t in love with you.

Carly(smiled at him) I know. That’s why I have to do this.

Sonny(didn’t understand what she was saying for a few seconds. For a few seconds he forgot she still had the gun in her hand and was pointing the barrel right at AJ’s head. When he suddenly remembered that it was too late. Still wearing that unbearable look of love in her eyes for Sonny and a serene and happy smile on her face, Carly pulled the trigger as Sonny screamed.)Nooooooooo!
