| We left southern Pensylvania on Friday the 4th and headed for West Virginia. Jackie and I had colds and it rained. We stayed for a few days and did very little. | ![]() |

| As we headed into Lexington, Kentucky we saw a lot of trees that looked like this. We found out that this was damage left over from an ice storm about 6 weeks ago. Perhaps this was part of the same storm that hit North Carolina. We see broken limbs and trees everywhewere. | |||
| We are staying at the Kentucky Horse Park. It is a State Park just north of Lexington, KY. It has a very large campground (where we are) and a 1,200 acre center dedicated to... horses. | |||
| Everywhere we go in this area, we see large farms, fancy barns, and wonderful old roads with rock walls that are over 100 years old. | |||
| Of course, horses are the king in this area. It's great to see them out wandering around the fields or racing along beside the fences. | |||
| Daniel Boone was buried in Frankfort, which is
the capital of Kentucky. (Frankfort is about 25 miles northwest of Lexington) |
|||
| This is the view from Daniel Boone's
gravesite. It's up on a cliff (in a cemetery) over Frankfort. In the picture at the right is the capital building. |

| I have been battling bronchitis and Jackie is once again fighting a cold. We have settled down into our site in Lexington and just waited for things to improve. "Things" include the weather. Monday started out rainy, then turned beautiful in the afternoon. Tuesday and Wednesday had a high of 42 (blaahhh) with lots of rain and Thursday was just as lovely. There are flood warnings all over the state (but, we are on high ground!). Friday, however turned nice as was Saturday. Lots of blue sky and around 64 degrees. The next few days are supposed to be up into the high 70's. We are ready for that! | |||
| We toured the Toyota Assembly Plant in Georgetown, Kentucky on Friday. (Georgetown is about 6 miles north of Lexington). They started operation in 1988 and this Camry was their first car. They build about 70% of the Camry's sold in the US and all of the Avalons. They turn out 2,000 cars per day! | |||
| Friday was a busy day for us (we were making up for the past 3 days!). We also toured the Shaker Village in Pleasant Hill, KY which is about 25 miles southwest of Lexington. The Shakers lived here for a little over 100 years. The roadway you see was the main "pike" in the 1800's. During the Civil War, thousands of troops from both sides marched through here and the Shakers fed and cared for them all. | |||

| Saturday we toured the Kentucky Horse Park.
This is a state park which is tied to our campground. They have 1,200 acres
dedicated to educating people about horses with demonstrations, movies, etc. The
picture on the far right is a statue of Man O' War who is buried there. The horse to
the left is CIGAR. Cigar earned more money than any other race horse in history;
almost 10 million dollars. The park has several horses that are famous. If you want to learn more about the park CLICK HERE |
