Avarua is the capital of the Cook Islands and is about the size of Sisters, Oregon. Around the island there are a variety of small villages which might have a grocery store/gas station and school. The island near the beach is all flat and people have built homes all the way around the island. There are two harbors on the island, both in Avarua. |

Here are Jackie and I arriving at about 6:30 am, Saturday, February 12th. We left Portland at 1:15pm the day before and flew to LAX. Then off to Tahiti, where we had a 1 1/2 hour lay-over at around 3:00 am. When we got off the plane in Tahiti, it was about 82 degrees and a humidity of about 600%. It was shocking! |

This is a typical view in Avarua. This is just a bit west of the main downtown area. Everywhere you look you see one of two things. The mountains or the ocean. Both are pleasing to the eye! |

| We stopped at a small place in town to have lunch. I ordered the "Palace Special". It had two buns, two slices of Canadian Bacon, two slices of pineapple, two eggs, and all of the salad you could imagine! All for about $6.00 USD. | When it was time to leave, Jackie found a quiet place in the "waiting room" at the airport. We got to the airport about 1 1/2 hours before the plane was to leave and it took about 10 minutes to check our bags and go through security | ||||||
