There Is A Light
Written by: Jacki - 07/94
There is a light inside of me
A gift from high above
And if you look inside you'll see
My hope, my joy, my trust, my love
It was given to me on the day I was born
It was white and bright and strong and warm
But something happened along the way
My light grew dimmer day by day
With each disappointment, every broken word
I stopped believing in what I heard
They told me I was beautiful, special, a treasure
But from their words I took no pleasure
For words so often had no value
They were given and broken
As if they'd never been spoken
But that little girl is no more
A frightened woman stands at a door
On one side the future
On the other the past
I wonder how long my light will last
With no one to love, no one to trust
My light stays inside
It cannot breathe and grow as it must
It must be shared to remain as bright
As when it was given to me on that cold winter's night
But it's not too late, there's still a chance
You could take my light and make it dance
It can breathe and grow and shine once more
If you will take my light and make it yours
So look inside, perhaps you'll see
There is a light inside of me.
