COVER STORY
Written by Sydney Derevko and Jennifer Vaughn
She didn't know that he was not real.  So she printed his picture off the internet and carried it with her wherever she went.  At parties when she saw people with their boyfriends, she would pull out the picture of him and show it to them.  She would say that he couldn't be with her at the party because he was a big important private investigator and he had lives to save.  They would all look at her weird and walk away.  Clearly this girl was delusional.

She spent her days wondering when she would finally get to meet this man, this stranger, the love of her life.  Every night she sat at her computer, waiting with longing and anticipation for the chance that he might log on.  There were countless times when she fell asleep facedown on the keyboard.  Then when she woke up she looked ridiculous with squares all over her face.  Sometimes in the morning the keys on the keyboard were stuck together, her drool acting like mortar on bricks.  She often wondered if somewhere, Jack was dong the same thing with longing for her.  Surely she couldn't be the only one buying a new keyboard at Office Depot every other day.

Her dysfunction was clear, she was a victim of insomnia.  Insomnia that could only be cured by one thing, the passion of a man who didn't exist.

She couldn't get him out of her mind.  She saw him everywhere, in the stars, in her food, on the street, but especially while watching Alias.  One man on the show brought about a familiarity that caused a tingling feeling in her stomach.  She could not explain it, but somehow she felt a connection with Jack when she watched that show.  Maybe somewhere he was watching it as well.

"So this is love.." she thought to herself.  She had never even been kissed, but she felt in her heart that Jack would be her first.  If not, she vowed she would never kiss anyone.

Sometimes she pondered what it would be like to be married to him.  Would they ever have children?  If so would he live to see their high school graduation?  Oh, she was getting ahead of herself.  Of course they would have to be married before they ever even considered children.  In that case, she hoped he proposed soon so he would still have that luxurious gray hair for the wedding pictures.  Would her father get along with him?  She thought so, while her father was quite a bit younger than Jack, they still had a lot in common.  Maybe someday her lovely Jack could be like an older brother to her father.

She had suffered from many aliments in her life; obesity, psychosis, schizophrenia  But falling in love was by far the greatest torment she had ever experienced.  Yes, she lived a troubled life, her roommate looked like a horse, and she rarely had contact with the man she loved.  She hadn't heard from him in quite some time and she worried for his safety.  His job did have inherent dangers, and he had been near-fatally shot before.  This troubled her so much she rarely slept at night, and when she did, her head was filled with loathsome dreams of pain and death for her love.

What would she do if he died?  Would she ever know?  His job was so secretive, and no one knew about the love they shared.  No one would even know to contact her if that horrific event ever did come to be...
