Till There Was You
Part 1

Jack had done this a million times before. He dialed up the Internet and began his online session. Straight to the chatrooms he went and quickly logged into the Massachusetts area of Onlinegay's chat service. He was specifically looking to chat to someone at least in reasonable vicinity so that they could meet up etc. He slowly traced his finger across the screen to find a name that he liked the sound of, and decided tonight he would pick on "misunderstood man".

"You sound interesting." He mused to himself, as he clicked the button for more info.

Vital statistics: 6'1" 160lbs brown hair. "I am an easy going funny guy, who just wants someone to love. Till now I have been with women only, and I am lookin for the first guy to bring me out of my shell."

"Nice" thought Jack as he continued to browse through the guy's file.

"I reside in a small-minded, little hamlet called Capeside where its so stuffy it's hard to breathe," read the passage.

Jack's eyes nearly fell out of his head when he read the text in question. After a year of soul searching and bad experience, there was actually someone else in Capeside sharing the burden of gayness with him. He checked the profile, but as he expected there was no picture. However the best was yet to come. He looked closely next to the guy's name and saw a yellow smiley indicating the guy was online at the moment. He clicked to chat with him, and began his message.

"Hi, I live in Capeside too, and was wondering if you'd like to meet me sometime for coffee, or whatever."

Jack held his breath thinking it would be just his luck, if the only other homosexual in Capeside were totally disinterested in his proposition, and told him to get lost. His fingers were crossed and sweating as the reply came up on screen.

"Sure, where shall we go?"

"Hang on here a minute," thought Jack, for a second reason beginning to creep into his head, "I really should ask a few things about him before I decide to meet him."

"So what else can U tell me that's not in your profile?" Jack typed.

"Well," began the disjointed reply, "I've had only girlfriends so far, and there have been three of them One relationship fell apart, another she cheated on me, and the other was a bit of a non-starter. I'm pretty confused at the moment and I started to like guys I guess about two years ago, but I only really admitted that to myself after the last relationship ended a few months ago I talk to guys on here quite a bit, but most of them are just lookin for the next fuck."

"I know what you mean," Jack said confirming the fact that all he was ever offered on the site was a blow-job too, and nothing remotely involving love.

"So do you have a photo?" Jack typed tentatively knowing that if he did it would probably be only a couple of minutes before he found that the guy was as ugly as sin.

"Sure" said the guy. "I don't photograph superbly, but I'm told I look OK".

"Well let's see," said Jack getting a photo ready to send him. "Ok I'm gona send mine now," said Jack.

"Ok." came the reply from the other end, "I've just sent mine, have u got it?"

"It's coming through now," said Jack. He opened the email, and fumbled to open the attachment at the bottom. His jaw dropped, as he sat looking at not only a great body personality and dress sense, but also a great friend, for the attachment contained a small Polaroid print of Pacey!

"Jack." the simplistic utterance came form the other end. "Is that you Jack?" Jack was breathing heavily now, in disbelief of what he was seeing. His heart skipped a set of beats as he looked again at the picture. He would never have said so but Pacey had been the object of all his desire for over a year now, and a source of attraction for a lot longer. He had gradually fallen as in love as a friend can, with this guy over the preceding years, and now here he was, admitting that he was attracted to guys too. Jack paused for another stifled breath, trying to take in the blur around him. At last he managed to type a phrase.

"Pacey, is that *you* Pace?"

"Yep," came the reply. "Listen Jack, I'm really sorry I didn't tell you before, cos I really should have and I know you're the last person I would need to keep it from, but I dunno why I didn't say."

"It's ok," Jack managed to say.

"So where do we go from here?"

Pacey's words on the screen led Jack to think of what he would like to do, or that maybe even Pacey would like to do, given time. But still the question beckoned. Where would they go from here?
