Only Human
Lost Scene from "Two Gentleman of Capeside"
By Steph ([email protected])

Summary: This takes place after everyone leaves the yacht club to go home.
Author's Note: Thanks to Roxy and J, my awesome beta readers. You both rock!!! Everyone seemed to be clamoring for this type of scene, so I hope it satisfies. Feedback, as always, is craved and appreciated.

As Jen and Grams pulled up to the house, Jen saw a dark figure sitting on the porch. She immediately realized who it was and took off running up the steps.

"Oh god, Jack! I was so afraid." Jen threw her arms around Jack and clung to him for dear life.

"I was worried sick about you, Jen. I didn't want to think about what I would have done had we lost you out there." He hugged Jen even tighter, not wanting to let go.

"I'm just gonna go inside and put on some tea, dear." Grams walked inside and left Jack and Jen on the porch.
"I could kill Pacey for taking you out into that storm," Jack added, not knowing where to direct his anger. "What was he thinking?"

"Jack, it's okay. He didn't mean for anything to happen. Besides, I volunteered to go. I could have just as easily checked the weather myself." Jen sat down and pulled Jack down onto the seat beside her. She kept her hand in his, not wanting to let go just yet.

"I was worried about you, Jen. You have no idea what it's like not knowing if your best friend is alive or dead."

"Hey, you weren't the one being tossed around like a tin car out there." She tried to laugh and alleviate the tension, but it wasn't working.

Jen knew that she and Pacey were lucky that Dawson and Joey had found them. She really could have died, and the thought scared her to death.

"Jen, this isn't funny."

"Believe me, Jack, I know. But, what am I supposed to say?" Her voice got louder, and she got angrier. "Should I be thanking God for rescuing me from the brink of death? Tell me, Jack, what should I be saying?"

Jen wasn't angry at Jack. In fact, she wasn't angry at anyone. But, she needed to release all of this pent-up tension and fear that she still felt. So, she chose the person she cared about the most, who just happened to be nearby.

"Go on, Jen. Let it out." Jack completely understood what she was doing. He had been through similar outbursts with Andie over the years.

Jen wasn't expecting Jack to take this from her. It took her by surprise. Before she realized it, tears were streaming down her face.

"Jack, what's happening to me?" Jen sank to the floor. "Why am I crying? Why am I so angry?"

"Because you went through a life-altering experience tonight, Jen. You're human. Get used to it." He bent down and helped her to her feet.

"But, Jen Lindley doesn't have emotions," she protested through tears. "I'm stoic and cynical to the core."

Jack embraced her once again and then stepped back to look her in the eye.

"Not anymore. Looks like we can thank Henry Parker for one thing after all."

"Yeah, well, that's all he gets credit for. Oh, and Jackers?" The tears began to dry up and Jen looked up at a Jack with a half-grin.

"Yeah, Jen?"

"Mention his name again, and you'll be the one lost at sea."

Jack linked his arm in Jen's and pulled her toward the door.

"Come on, Lindley. Let's go get some tea. There's been enough drama around here for one night."
