Part 3 By Irina ([email protected]) Jack drove down the empty highway. The speed limit was 55, but it was a miracle if the old rented Honda could make 45 mph. The sun was setting. It was so beautiful. The big clouds that hung in the sky during the day were tinted pink and the sky looked as if it was on fire. His companion sat beside him. Her name was Flo. The name was short for Florencia. It was too long so she preferred the shortened version. They met in a diner along the road and when Jack heard that she was on her way to Capeside all the way from Los Angeles, he offered to give her a lift. He was planning on going home shortly and Flo was just another reason to do that. She was tall, nicely build, and so sweet. They started talking on the road. Jack told her about himself as she revealed to Jack about her life as well. She was 16, on her way to meet her dad. Her parents separated when she was back in 5th grade and she hadn't seen her dad since. Her mother passed away from Cancer and her father was the only other person in the world whom she had. It was either that, or living in an orphanage. Flo also told Jack about her last boyfriend. They cared for each other so much, but one time she came to his house a little early than usual and saw him making out with her best friend. It shocked her to the core, so she and Adam (the name of her estrange boyfriend) broke up shortly afterwards. Jack listened patiently. Flo reminded him of his own friends, making his heat ace with pain. He missed them so much. Especially Jen. He wondered idly what she was doing at the time. The sun had already set and a chill was spreading across the car. Where had the time gone? It was already close to 9 p.m.! Ooh, Roswell is about to start, he thought casually. Flo squirmed in her seat, wrapping her arms around herself. It really was cold and the heater was busted. Jack pulled off his jacket and handed it to her. She thanked him and put it on. Capeside, here we come! |
