"JACKETS IN THE MIST"

The Yellowjackets standing strong against the Roland Rangers.

1 Team, 1 Mission

This year promises to be a great year for the Yellowjackets who have a lot of key starters returning.  The schedule will be hard as they are matched up with Cascia Hall, Tulsa Victory and last years district champs, Haskell.
This coming seasons Jackets have made some school history.  First they set a school record score by defeating Chouteau 72 to 42.  Then at this years Regional State Power Meet they won it for the first time in school history.  Several of the jackets that made that history are returning.  Coach Burdge has a good feeling about his upcoming Jackets.  Last time he had a group of kids like this returning they went to the third round in district play back in '96.  There are a couple of positions right now that are still up in the air of who will start, but you can count on them having leadership all around them.  Eighty-five percent of the starters returning will be seniors.  One of the key players returning is RB/LB Jonathan Kirby.

He will surely be a key asset for the Jacket ground assault.  He weighs in at 195lbs, 5'10" and runs a 4.6 40 yard dash.  In his combined 20 varsity games that he has played for Westville (played 6 his freshman year and had 24 carries for 106 yards) he has accumulated 1,923 yards rushing and led the team in tackles on defense..  He  truly is a potential Division I prospect.

Kirby is #84 on the Oklahom Top 100 List and is being recruited by Navy, Army, Air Force, Southwest Texas State and Rhode Island.  He lists Navy as number one right now, but Army isn't to far behind.
Another key returnee will be #30 Kaden Mathews who has the stickiest hands that I have ever seen at Westville.  He catches everything thrown at him, and he led the Jackets in receptions last season..  He will surely be the go to man when the ball goes to the air.  His height and speed will be a very valuable asset to the Jacket air assault.  Other key returnees include,  Brian Davis who is a very strong tight end, look for him to put up high numbers next year if the Jackets play with a dual offense .  Last but definitely not least is Aaron "The I will put you in the ground" Early.  That boy is just awesome.  He is big and quick, which is dangerous to any offensive coordinator.  There is just something about this team that is coming up, they are sure to go to the playoffs and have a shot at the disrtict tittle, if they can get around Cascia and Eufaula.  2A-7 has three players on the Oklahoma Top 100 List, Robert Spangler (QB) from Warner, Avery Shine (RB/DB) Eufaula and our very own Jonathan Kirby.  This District is known to most of the coaches as "THe Super District.  The Yellowjackets have a good chance this year.  Come out and support them.  -Phil Johnson
